Newsflash! I've officially bumped up a string gauge

I decided I was going to man up and try to get to 10s on a strat. I've really been comfortable with 9s on Fender scale guitars forever, but now that I play mostly the Gibson with 10s, the 9s felt too flimsy. So on went the 10s on the strat. Have been playing the strat most of the time through the week and the Gibby on the weekend. Now the 10s feel a little too slinky on the Gibby...so I'm going to try 11s on the 335 next string change. :thu: <--- I think.

I like 10's, You ever tried the 9.5 strings Ernie Ball makes? They are pretty sweet, I've used them on my Luke for several years even though I don't break it out much these days

I had the 9.5s on my les paul at one point. It has 10s on it now. I think 9.5s are going to be to slinky for me anymore. Probably going to stop and get 11s this week.

I have 9s on all of my electrics. I think they're all 25.5", though... 9s probably would feel pretty slinky on a Gibson.

I'm ready to go 11's on my Les Paul standard at this point...I have 12's on my '79 The Paul and the Artcore. I'm keeping 10's on the rest of my guitars though since that appears to be the right gauge for the rest of the stuff that I do.

I run 10's on everything with 6 strings, even the acoustic.
They just feel and sound right.

I am about to give 11's a whirl on my G&L Tele. Probably at the next change as I already have the strings.

12s on everything*, yeah, you heard that right. I have an excuse though, i started on Upright Bass.

*except the floyd.

Hey EG, They (10s) just feel a little light anymore, so I figured I may as well try 11s on the Gibby. The 10s on the strat feel pretty good at the moment (up from 9s that started feeling way too flimsy). It may not work out with 11s, we'll see. I used to have a hard time with 10s on a Gibby scale length.

Since I got my archtop acoustic, I had to start using 12s there. The 10s on an electric started giving me problems after that, so I went up to 11s there.

I started out playing 10's on a strat so I don't know anything else. I have 11's on my Gretsch. I Think any lighter gauge would feel too sloppy for me.

I'm really torn on string gauge these days. I really like the bending feel of 9s on my fenders, and 10s on my LP, but I find sometimes when I go to grab that 9 gauge high e string, I miss it because it is thin and a little floppy. Like when digging in for a bend. I'd like to go to 10s to fix that, but then the bending feel goes all to hell. I think I need 9 and 3/4, or perhaps a set of 9 gauge strings with a 10 high e.

I use 10s on all my guitars, regardless of scale length.

Except for the Wolfgangs. They have 9s. They just seem to feel better to me with 9s.

I do 10s on Fender scale and 11 on Gibsons. I guess I will try 12s on my duo sonic when it arrives this week.

Tele.... you should try the 10-52's that I use on all of my guitars. (I use D'Addarios)

The issue I had with many 10 and 11 sets is that the high strings got taughter, but the lower strings didn't ramp up at the same rate... making it stiffer to bend the high strings, but the bass strings still felt flubby.

I DARE you to put 10-52's on there and not immediately feel funk riffs coming out of your strat... they're just so damned SPANKY!!! :baimun:

I use GHS lo-tune 11-53 on most of my electrics. GHS 11-59 on the strat and GHS 13-56 for the slide guitars.
