Is this stolen valor?

I was making a purchase at the sporting goods store today and the sales guy asked if I was current or former military cuz that would get me a 5% discount.

I said no, because that's the truth.

He said I could get another 5% off if I signed up for a store bonus card (not a credit card, but some kind of points/discount business) And if I didn't mind he would give me the military discount, apply the proceeds toward a 1-year warranty, and give me the remainder on a gift card. I said ehrmmm, sure.
I assume he gets some kind of sales guy kickback for "selling" the warranty and the bonus card.

So I got a free warranty and a $32 gift card. But now I'm wondering if I'm gonna get assblasted by some weapons grade military karma.

What's the consenus?

It's not stealing if they just hand it to you...you didn't claim to be military, he just opted to hand you a discount you didn't request...

...assblasting military grade Karma should not apply to this situation...

I’m A Veteran and I don’t blame you. It’s a discount not valor. No this though, each discount I have gotten I have had to show my DD Form 214 or my Veteran’s VA card. Literally every single time since I got out in 1992. I don’t think ill of you at all because you were honest when asked. The store guy, he’s a POS.

You told him you were not a veteran.
I don't see a problem.

I frequently forget to ask for a veteran discount.
It basically saves me the taxes on a purchase.

I don't see any karmic badness for you or him (it's not like he was taking money from a veteran and giving it to you)

not at all it's just a bullshit discount much like an over 65 discount is. It doesn't mean everyone who meets the requirements deserves it or needs it, some do and some don/t. It's basically a discrimination discount....I mean if polled all ex military and asked them "if you knew you wouldn't get a military discount in the future would you still have joined the military ?" I'm pretty sure 99 percent would say yes.
I view it like car sales prices...the capatalistic pigs can afford to give a discount because they are already making good profit, otherwise they would probably train employees not to mention it but to accept it if someone asked.

Right on. 2man’s karmic screw up here is shopping at sporting goods stores that needlessly subsidize the military industrial complex.

I think its mainly the capitalist pigs' attempt to attract military type customers, who are inclined to buy more of that store's product. The store loses a little margin but makes up for it in volume and PR, and that translates to a higher profit.

Which is why it's easy to find military discounts at a store that sells tree stands, but not at one selling vegan burritobowls.

So anywho, after a period of soul searching and meditation, I think the universe will be OK with it. I havent harmed veterans in any way with this transaction. Moreso that the store employee played the game and socked it to the man to juice his performance on some kind of bullshit performance metric. And that's groovy.
