GPOTD Is this One Better than a Suhr Modern?

Sorry it took a bit this morning... couldn't find what I was looking for on Reverb... so instead, here's one that I found when I was in Nashville at Carter Vintage Guitars a few months back.

The Bengal finish is a little over the top... but in some ways it perfectly balances the wild look of what would traditionally be a "painted tiger stripe" deco... while being done with natural wood without looking like some of the burl/spalt/nightmare fuel I've seen elsewhere.

What you might not see at first glance.... the entire neck is SCALLOPED :eek:

Personally, I wouldn't want scalloping any lower than the 7th fret.... but it was very interesting to play!

It was pretty mesmerizing.... Apparently I played the guitar long enough, trying to wrap my brain around a 7 string with a fully scalloped neck that my wife took this pic while I remained completely oblivious, until she showed it to me later that evening. :lmbo:

Not my thing, but I like the color a lot. I don’t think I’ve ever tried a Suhr, but I’ve always been curious.

They don't do anything unexpectedly crazy... they're just really.. fucking... good... at what they need to do.

The standard necks run a little on the slim end of the spectrum, but they're more comfortable than a Charvel or Ibanez. The stainless frets are absolute perfection. The bridge choices are pretty pedestrian... the Gotoh 510 is again a solid piece of kit, nothing special but does it's job well... and the other trem they normally use is a Floyd which you either love or hate.

There's a reason that so many studio and touring guys use them..... but honestly, PRS has gotten really damned close to their quality with a little more variety in neck carves and body shapes. I have been shaking my head trying to figure out how my PRS 594 S2 is so good at the price point... it's right in the conversation with all of the 3K - 4k guitars that I've owned... for $1500? :shrug:
 
I can barely handle 6 strings, seven is right out. Not interested in scallops, either.

Oh, wasn’t really aware of the slim neck profiles…that would most likely make them a no go for me.
 
Is the 7th string tuned to B? I might have to reconsider 7 strings (and I’m Suhr I can’t afford the OP guitar). I’m not bonding well with my PRS baritone

It was, but I also tuned it down to A and tested it that way. In this instance it’s difficult to separate the 7 string from the scallop, but it definitely played better than all the flat necks on Ibanez and Petruccis.

What didn’t you like on the PRS? Scale length?

it’s a Mushok SE baritone. I should put some better pickups in it before I completely write it off. What’s bugging me about it is the neck. It seems flimsy like I could just break it off if I wanted to.
 
Tried a used one in a music store a few years back, the salesman asked what I thought, and got mad when I said it was "Meh". His angry response was, "But it's a SUHR!!!!" I'm sure they're great, but apparently not all of them are (like any brand, I suppose). I'd like to get my hands on a good one...
