Is the Mazda miata a chick/old guy car?

Yes and yes.

My step-dad bought himself a Miata recently. My mum thinks it's "cute." She would.

Yes, Yes, and Yes.

Stock versions fall into chick/old guy and his wife car.

They can be hopped up and be pretty fun - although not usually worth it, people still do it.

There's a fun run here every year. They stop at all of the wineries.

No. Watch some Dunlop Sport Cup /Continental Tire sports car racing. The mazda miatas dominate the ST class. Probably the most popular club racer in the last 15 years, and pretty much top of their class in terms of wins.

For the road car, it is a bit underpowered, but generally regarded as one of the best sports car chassis ever.

And yeah, it is popular with chicks and old guys.

Reasonably stiff frame, lightweight cars with anemic engines. I've seen a few that have been modified to accept the 13B rotary (and even one for a 20B 3-rotor ) that have been pretty quick cars. And yeah, they make great club racers and such.

I looked at a couple years back (read: before kids) but ended up with an FC3S RX-7 instead.

My position is this:

Chick/Old Dude? W/R/T the General population...resounding yes. Motorsports enthusiasts who know the word "autocross"...no.

Hoon factor? low but not non-existent. Needs more juice for proper hooning.

Yes to chicks and old guys, and yes to good racing platform. The irony is thick with that one.

ST class at the race a couple of weeks ago at the Circuit of the Americas. Mazda miatas took 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place, and a Mazdaspeed3 finished in 9th and 10th, if I recall.

Yeah, if we are talking road course I will take a Miata any day of the week. People seem to get caught up in horsepower and forget about stuff like. chassis ridgity, handling, braking, weight, weight distribution the list goes on.

Yep, the brakes alone are worthy. They take abuse without much, if any fading.

Yeah, the Miata that my father in law had for a few years was just a girly little grocery getter....

Oh yeah.... It was a grocery getter with a 500 horsepower V8, sidepipes, and a roll cage. :embarrassed:

Just because you put syrup on a pile of shit don't make it pancakes.
Just kidding. That car is pretty sweet Baimun. You do kind of prove the point of the thread by mentioning it was your father in laws car though.
I'd drive it.

Nice car, the side pipes are a little much for me but otherwise pretty cool.
