Is it because so many folks here are Foo Fighter fans

beloved, local musician
and I am seeing a lot of stuff, or are they risking over-exposure? It seems you can, perhaps, be too much in the public eye. They seem to be a great band, and Dave Grohl seems a nice guy, but will they start being celebs and lose some of their edge? Just wondering. What do you think?
 
Honestly, they are probably at that point in their career where it's all downhill from here. I mean, they've been around for almost 20 years now. Most rock bands peak within the first 5 or 6 years.
 
I dunno. They seem to take it all in stride and don't seem full of themselves, like say....U2 is these days.

I would think they've got some good music left in them.

Their fans will likely still remain their fans. They probably won't attract many new fans from here on, though, because today's kids probably don't want to listen to a bunch of guys in the 40s playing dad rock.

I have played one song only which was "Learning To Fly". That was because it was one of the tunes on the songlist for our gigging band. Outside of that I enjoy Grohl behind the drum kit for Nirvana more.

Just a note...if you plan to come to Pragestock, be prepared to either sit or play when Monkey Fucken' Wrench gets played. Next to the Trooper, it is a Pragestock anthem.
 
They can always play the club circuit as The Holy Shits.

They're more out there right now because of the other projects that they've got going on - Sound Studio and now Sonic Highways.

Having those come out so close together, you're probably getting over-Foo'd with the promotion efforts associated with those projects.


I was not a fan early on, but I am liking them more and more lately. Actually, it's more them and what they do that I like more so than their music.
 
They are out there a lot for sure right now. I guess that is ok with me as I still enjoy what they are doing, but I hope they keep trying to be creative and not become a cover band of themselves over time, like The Stones, and some other bands have done.
 
I wouldn't know the song Monkey Wrench if it came up and bit me on the….well, if it bit me :embarrassed:


So what Gary is saying is, that they might get tired of fighting Foo at some point?

To be honest, their songs are really hit and miss with me as well. About the only album that I really like all the way through is Wasting Light. Most of their albums contain at least 3 or 4 songs that I consider filler material, but they also usually contain 3 or 4 songs that I think kick tons of ass.

I just really like their overall vibe, and the fact that they still do neat stuff for their fans (like the garage tour for Wasting Light and now the week of being the house band on Letterman.

I'm convinced that someday we'll figure out a way to get them to Pragestock. :grin:

Wastng Light Is the only FF album own I think.


Hey, they are open to crowdfunded gigs. Get your Kickstarter going for Pragestock 2015.
 
I've been a fan since the first album, but when The Colour and the Shape hit it was a pretty big deal for me; I was 14 years old and playing in a rock band and I listened to that album obsessively. New Way Home and February Stars still rock my socks off.

Some of their albums are better than others, but they're a loud rock and roll band that plays their heart out every night. Can't hate that.
