Go for it. Imo most people who doubt their ability tend to be better than they think.![]()

I would do it. Like most guitarists who haven't played much bass, I'm convinced that I would be great at it.

Having played quite a bit of bass over the years, I can confirm that playing bass is almost all about listening, and very little about playing/technique in most settings.
You can easily get away with being somewhat sloppy timing wise as a guitar player, but never as a bass player.
It's also the most important instrument in any (normal) band imo.![]()
I would argue for either drummer or singer. Either can carry a band. Either can break as band.
