Question: If you bought a guitar in 2023…

What were your keepers? If not a guitar/bass/stringed instrument, did you get a great amp/pedals/mics etc.? These were all keepers for me along with some cool fuzzes, maybe I’ll be able to restrain myself a little more in 2024…although I did sell a few off to make room.

Ric 330: bucket list guitar for me, I love everything about it and it forces me to approach my playing differently which is a good thing. I haven’t touched the setup since I got it, it’s been absolutely perfect from the get go. Very inspiring guitar, playability is a non issue for me.

Epiphone Shinichi Ubukata ES-355: I always wanted a 355 (have a couple of nice 335’s), but the Gibsons are custom shop only and I’m not into spending that much $$ for one right now. This fit the bill nicely, upgraded electronics and Gibson pups and it’s a looker. Heavy AF though weighing in at just under 10 Lbs., although it is nicely balanced. Baseball bat neck w/ ebony board limited to 200 (Sweetwater). Very happy with it…not at all familiar w/ the artist’s music, just dug the specs.

Gibson SG Standard: It’s a deep emerald green (although billed as teal transparent) and I had to have it being a green kinda guy. I have a few other nice SG’s and didn’t really need it, but green Great playing guitar, I lowered the pup pole pieces a little to tame the top end bite but that’s it.

Squier 40th Anniversary Jazzmaster: I have a few nice JM’s already and didn’t need it either, but for $260 (ProAudiostar mid year blowout) I had no choice! The neck was the big surprise with this one, very chunky and super comfortable w/ a nice worn in feel. Very resonant and lightweight, the pups are surprisingly good but it still might be a candidate for a swap later on.

I picked up these 3. Love the electrics and the acoustic is nice, but I’m not much of an acoustic player.

I also bought a PRS, but didn’t really bond and out it went.

I bought two guitars last year - and sold a bunch to pay off the first one.

This acoustic is a keeper. A for life keeper. Lowden S30



I also bought a Gretsch Electromatic Jet - mainly as a backup for a live recording project. I like this, but not love. Pickups are good - not great. And the pup selector switch is not working well. Cheap hardware. I'll keep it for now (it was a very good price), but probably not long term. I'd like a better version of the same guitar.

I bought one — Fender Vintage II ‘63 Tele in 3-tone burst.

I think it’s a keeper. It’s definitely the nicest tele I’ve had and it’s proving to be a comfortable, versatile instrument that sounds great.

Picked up a 2nd hand Yamaha APX600 including Hiscox hard case while on holiday this summer. Definitely a keeper.

I bought a beater strat copy as a mod platform, but I haven't done much to it yet. I ve got a bad connection in one of my main guitars so I'm using the cheap strat more than expected.

Put together this partscaster and it's not going anywhere. I will eventually get another silver lace sensor and decide if the red or blue stays in the bridge, but it's staying until I die.

I may get a used APX to take back to the states and leave there. Keep seeing them for about 100 bucks and always liked them.

That's what mine is. It was around 300 bucks new.

I got a Fender Monterey Standard acoustic electric guitar. I can't handle a dreadnought at this time; this guitar is concert size; smaller than a dreadnought but larger than a parlor guitar. It sounds okay unplugged but really sounds good plugged in. It is the first Fender California acoustic that isn't black that I have owned.

These don’t suck for less than 30 bucks Canadian each.

And I picked up the REVV G3 and G4 pedals as well.
