Of course they're available with flame tops and such, but I love going the other direction so that the beauty is in the carve, but then you get the benefit of the superior PRS hardware and some really great sounding stock pickups.

I have the mahogany topped Hollowbody which looks great.... is lightweight and plays sooooo sweet.

I also have an S2 594 in a solid color (Seafoam)... and the short scale, with the vintage controls (except for the push/pull coil splits) are right on the money... but straighter string pull keeps the guitar IN TUNE even with the bone nut. :eek:

But one of my favorite elements is the aluminum tailpiece which is KILLER! Instead of pulling the string vvvvrrrrrtttt... through it... you set the ball end of the string in the slot, push it to one side and BOOM it's anchored in a little cubby hole. Plus if you palm mute, the wider, flatter bridge piece does NOT dig into the side of your hand like a typical ABM1

I plan to look for a used one over the next year or two. Ibanez has used a similar tailpiece design on their semi hollows since the 80's.
 
They’re pretty but I think my next guitar is going to be a Greco LP Custom. Or just another Gibson SG.
 
McCartys are the most comfortable guitars I've ever played. I've never tried a singlecut but I suspect I'd like them too.

I'll be a happy man when the mods on my S2 McCarty are finally done. Just need to get a glitch in how the toggle was wired fixed at this point, which should happen Friday.

That's part of the savings.... the violin carve is a 3/4" thick top that's carved through... where as the SE solid and hollow are laminates.

That's one more reason I think the carved mahogany of mine is extra satisfying... the front and the back are both carved. Not as extreme as the Core model but satisfyingly curved. It doesn't leave me with any of that icky feeling I get when I look at paper thin laminates over a 1/4 maple top. I mean, even 335's are actually laminates, but being a guitar builder, I can see the edges and seams of what's essentially a "photoflame". :wink:

I have 3 PRSs: an SE Santana, an SE Soapbar II, and a 25th Anniversary Swamp Ash Special. The Santana is my favorite of the 3 and one of my favorite guitars.
 
2005, I was looking for something LP but just wasn’t willing to pay Epip prices. I did a lot of looking at some bad quality guitars before I found a Tradition LP in a small mom and pop shop back then that was a good bit less than an Epip and beautiful. They went out of business. I still have it and play it often.
 
It’s difficult to capture the back carve… it has a since roundness to it, but the fish eye of the cell phone camera makes it look flat.

I've never handled an SE, but I have really liked the S2s I've seen and played. I'll have to check a Hollowbody out - there's one at Dave's near me.
 
The 594 SE Singlecut is definitely on my radar, but I have been playing stuff with thinner necks lately. I got one of those Epiphone Jerry Cantrell Wino LP Customs last year, and it is flawless.
 
I wanted to try one when I was at Sweetwater on Saturday, but they didnt have any SE ones out in the showroom :frown:
