I wants me a Stratocaster

Forget country of origin. Just play the shit out of every Strat that catches your eye and buy the one that makes you feel funny in the nether regions.

This is the correct answer. Strats are mass production line instruments with varying tolerances in construction. Pick a component quality level you're happy with and then find the one that went together right for you.

forget about "sunbursts".....find something that SPEAKS to you......this one speaks to me....

96 Plus?

yes....1996 Am. Std. Plus Deluxe. i dumped the Lace sensors and put a set of pups that Owen Duffy made for me. best strat pups i've ever heard.
(www.ocduffpickups.com if you are interested. he makes every pup by hand, one at a time, to the customers wishes/specs/etc.)

i also dumped the "pearloid" pickguard.....no likey.

That's one of the few guitars (of the dozens I've sold) that's on the regret list... And I'm with you. That pickguard was unfortunate.

I have a chance to get a practically brand new one in an SKB flight case for $725. I'm still trying to work him over a bit and pick it up tonight. It's a great price, even if he doesn't budge.

i bought mine new in '96....at the time i was a guitar tech at a local store (side job), and because the owner really couldn't afford to pay us (there were two of us, both in the same band)...a regular pay, we got 60% off MSRP on anything in the store.....so i got the strat, a year old Blues Deluxe, several pedals, a really nice Yamaha Acoustic (retail with case was like $750 back then).....and a bunch of other stuff.

anyway.....this strat and an ES-175D are the only guitars i still have from the 80's up to now. with the Duffy pickups in it, it's fantastic. i always get guys coming up to me (when i DO play out)....and they always ask what pickukps are in it..."cuz those sure ain't stock"

Anyone have any experience with the new Fender Fat 50s pickups? That's what's coming stock in American Strats now. I'm seeing mixed reviews.

i don't know anything about them. the only thing you really can do is wait and see how they sound with YOUR amp and YOUR pedals and even YOUR playing style.

David Gilmour seems to like it in the neck position of his Fender sig model that he replaced the neck pickup in the REAL Black Strat with one.

I really do miss the green one though. :( the pickups were lacking, but the color was AWESOME. And I'm colorblind :embarrassed:

me too!

this was mine, it's long gone.
just a cheap Bullit, but it was okay for a hunnerd bucks
