I really feel like getting rid of the CuNiFe pickups in my Tele deluxe

If the CuniFe don't work for you but you like the way the guitar plays I say go for it.
Its not like you havn't given em a fair try.
From what I hear the Antiquities are a no brainer for a vintage style PAF.
 
Every time I pronounce CuNiFe I think of Turkish cuisine.

And yes, I think I'd prefer regular PAFs in there.
 
I say go for it. I was never a fan of the wide range thing myself. I had a thinline with a Duncan 59 in the neck. Very jazzy in a 335 kinda way.
 
You really did your best to get with the Wide Range thing. The aim at the end of the day is to have a guitar that pleases you, and if a PAF does that then that's the right choice.

I spent years reading about real deal Wide Range buckers and the when I finally tried them in person, I kinda just preferred nicer PAF-style HBs.

For vintagey humbuckers, I’m really digging the Lollar Imperials in my Kauer. Still in the honeymoon phase, but might be worth checking out if you go down this route.
 
I'd say sell them and do it.

Just to throw another contender in there, I'm surprised by how much I've come to love the Duncan Whole Lotta Humbuckers in my PRS S2 Custom 22. PAF-ish, but a bit more nasty in a cool way.
 
Fucking fancy PAF-style humbuckers are a total rabbit hole. You could probably spend infinity dollars looking for the magic pixie dust that’s actually just the half-remembered sound of a drug addict’s playing run through heaps of 60s studio tube gear and listened to by a teenager with a defective turntable.

Mark, you gave the faux wide-range a proper audition, the CuNiFe WR a proper try, so I don't think anyone feels your crazy for switching now.

Spend the $1500 for a pair of Tom Holmes H450/H455.
 
I try not to go down the pickup swap trail if I can help it. I’d love to have some more vintage HBs in my SG but really, the 490s sound good to me. They don’t bug me so it’s an itch I feel like I don’t have to scratch.
In my experience even if the swap is positive it can be a mixed bag. I replaced the “Mudbuckers” in the 5120 Electromatic for some Filtertrons and even tho it was an overall improvement and way more “Gretchy” sometimes I missed the old dark muddy ones for some applications.
I put some alnico Tex-Mexes in a cheap Strat and hated them, put the cheap ceramics back in.
Dynas in my old Pro Jet are way better overall than the original mini hums, but mini hums weren’t bad really, the swap just changed the whole character of the guitar from a LP Deluxe kinda vibe to a Telecaster slayer.
I put a set of HB sized P90s in the Broadway and it totally changed the character of it. There was nothin wrong with the original Epi HBs but I went from trying to learn show tune standards on it to only playing jump blues and swing when I picked it up.

Ultimately, they are going into a $1200 guitar. Even the Antiquities are probably overkill but I love the Strat pickups (both types) that I've had so I'd like to try these.

Already done! Just waiting for them to deliver my gazebo so that I can take proper photos of my work.
 
Just because I am indeed a pain in the butt, I just remembered that Wolfetone still has the 25% off pandemic sale going, so you could get a set of Dr Vs for less than the Antiquities...
 
I've always wanted to put P-90s in my tele. And then I remember that I don't have tele because I just can't stand the way they feel.
 
I have HB on the bridge and a reg neck pick up on my American tele. They're stock. The only information Fender gives is that they are "special". I love the the sound of them but I've only played it through a Deluxe Reverb or straight into a mixing board. I wouldn't know if it's more the pups or the amp that makes it sound more pleasing to me.
