I now know what it's like to live in Chicago

Dogue in teh desert
I just got back from Portillos. It was pretty good. I'll go back as it's like only 4 minutes away by car. They been open for about 4 months so I decided to finally go on a Sunday morning just after they opened. It's nice and big inside, freindly and the food was good but We've had a longtime Luke's here ( no relation to the Chicago Lukes) so I've had the stuff before but it's been a longtime. I wanna say the Lukes was better but this was good.
The end.

oh p.s. I do like their mascot thingy on the bags and cups...the weinerdog with a bun body ....pretty cool

Overpriced and overrated.

Also—and relevant mostly to me—their vegan dog is served on a non-vegan bun and their fries aren’t vegan. And they didn’t do the obvious thing and parter with local vegan foods provider Uptons whose Updog is a very good vegan hotdog.

Thank you for the insight. I eagerly await Punkkitty and DKH' take.

Portillo's is okay when you don't have many other options. Their Italian beef is passable. But there is better. Fries are average. A Coke is a Coke. Their Chicago style hot dogs are as good as any other made with Vienna Beef hot dogs. I won't say no to Portillo's, but it's not my first choice.

The only time I've been to a Portillo's, I got the hamburger

I just felt like having a burger that day.

as much as I like doggos, the superdawg mascots have got the portillos weiner dog beat

SuperDawg is excellent. They have their own custom-seasoned dogs and other sassidges. Pickled green tomatoes. Crinkle fries. Delightful.

Their vegan option kind of sucks worse though—it’s a bring your weenie and they just sell you the bun and toppings. So you’re just rolling up with a hot Weiner in a baggie or something.

heh, that's a bizarre vegan "offering" (or non-offering as the case may be)

"Hey we have options for vegans! Hey vegans! you wanna be all picky you can just bring your own damn food! suck it!"

Same thing as punkkitty said, good enough but not great. Here's a pro tip for you, since Italian beefs aren't exactly a health food when I'm in the mood for one (which is rare) I go full on and get the combo sammich which is an eye-talian beefer with an eye-talian sassidge in the middle and the hot giardineiras too.

I would always get the double dog at Superdawg because I'm a glutton. And because it's delicious. Damn it now I miss Chicago food!! (Not that I stopped)
