Question: I missed the memo on Bigsby hate

My first electric guitar was a super cheap SG copy w/ a horrible Bigsby knock off that was everything the Bigsby-haters describe. I too suffered from Bigsbybias for years as a result. Later down the road, I played a few guitars w/ decent Bigsby & a good setup that showed me things could be better. Don't fear the Bigsby.

the guitars that Deep Eddy & BlackCat posted HAVE to have a Bigsby, IMO.
as does any other guitar in that style.

With the proper setup they are just as stable as any other vibrato unit. I have two Bigsby equipped guitars and they are both solid.

I don't hate Bigsby's, but have no love of vibrato, so it is just useless hardware for me.

It attaches to the posts on the Bigsby unit. All you have to do is drop the ball end into the slot instead of trying to wrap it around the bar and getting the hole of the ball end onto the post.











I wrote that four different ways and this one sounded the least dirty.

They are not idiot-proof, is their main problem. I have an Ibanez hollow with a Bigs, and I admit I invested a fair bit of tweaking and toolwork, say an evening's worth, and now I have no issues and quite enjoy it, when I want some vibrato twang.

I jumped to the Vibramate site to take a look.

That's a nice design. Common sense idea, and I may get one for my Gretsch to make me happier with the guitar.

Sure, you can do that.
But it's a bad design that requires these gymnastics to accommodate it.

You can use pencil erasers too, doesn't make the design less bad.
If it had been designed with that Vibromate shelf back in the beginning, it may have not been changed by Leo for his design.

every guitar has certain things you need to do to put the strings on a bit more easily. is cutting the ball end off a string to use it with a floyd gymnastics? what about taping a stoptail in place? or properly knotting classical strings? not everything has to be idiotproof.
