Ditched my wife's work ball on Saturday night because the DJ was pretty bland and kept doing that annoying - this tune is by A and up next we have a great little hit by B. 1. you're not on the radio, 2. there's 500 people in the room and every fecking one of them knows this is the Village People you're playing - you don't need to inform us.
But I digress. We hit up this indie pub / club I practically lived in when I was a student - legit 1st name terms with all the staff, extra shots in our cocktail jugs, free pool and so on back in the day.
Admittedly I was wearing a suit and she was in a dress so we weren't really fitting the profile but the 2nd bouncer looks us up and down and says - "uh, y know it's a bit of a young crowd we've got in tonight."
I'm 33 mate, I'm not going to pull out a sudoko book...
"Yeah but it's just, y know, this is a studenty indie place..."
I've spent more hours in this bar than I want to admit - I know what the place is like, we just want to come in and listen to some decent music and have some drinks.
He turns to the head bouncer who comes over:
"You don't seem drunk so uh yeah I suppose you can come in, but it IS £5 entry tonight..."
fucking hell mate, unlike everyone in there, we're not students and actually have money to spend on your decent booze, I think we can manage the cover charge!
We spent the next 2 hours dancing along to the stuff they used to play there 10 years ago with all these non-ironic hipster douches who were buying gut rot cheap gin
