How many guitars do you take to a gig?

I normally don't carry more than two guitars to a gig but now I may carry 3-4....WTF?

For the Petty tribute I actually have to carry a minimum of 3.

Les Paul
Tele
My Penguin LP Double Cutaway - Tuned to F

Extra depending on tunes
Strat with Tremolo

I may in the future build another Tele with a Bigsby - always wanted a Bigsby Tele.
 
If I was only playing guitar for a gig, 3 would be a good number for instrument variety... Like an LP or Tele, a Strat, and an acoustic.


... since I'm singing and playing guitar, and the PA is mine... I have enough shit to bring to every gig, so I only bring 2.... my Taylor and either a PRS or Strat. :helper:


I see people only bring one instrument to a gig with spare strings.... but then you have to make an unscheduled stop, or have someone else in the band do a solo song... it can be a little annoying.
 
Two. I'm not looking for different tones or anything. The second one is only a backup.
 
Depends, but usually 3-4 (two of which tuned in open G and D standard), and for one of the bands I bring a baritone as well.
 
For me, it never seems prudent to bring just one, but it always seems excessive to bring more than two.

If I used alternate tunings much that would be another matter.
 
When I play at Varners Tavern in beautiful Smyrna, GA, the crowd has certain expectations. Y'all some lazy fuckers if you think you can get through a gig just using one or two electrics and not have the people listening notice and get annoyed. You need AT LEAST a Strat, a Tele, a Les Paul, a 335, and an electric 12 string. I am talking bare minimum here. It's probably a bad idea to go out there without a Floyd-equipped guitar like a Jackson Soloist or something. I think the fewest amount of guitars I've taken to Varners is nine, and that's only because they're not willing to push any more tables out of the "stage" area for me to fit more.

Respect your audiences you lazy pieces of shit.
 
Two.

Usually I will try and play my Buckshot for one set and the Flatroc for the other two or three. I don't do the alt-tunings thing at this point but our other guitar player in the band does. He brings four guitars. Two electrics in standard tuning, a third one in 'G' and an acoustic in open 'E'.
 
I have been just bringing one guitar and the banjo, but it looks like the Luna Safari will be coming to gigs now, so I'll actually have two. I don't remember the last time I broke a string. idn_smilie
