Happy New Cheap Gretsch Day!
So I've seen this guitar in a local store used and for some reason found myself attracted to it. It's totally not the kind of guitar I would usually want but I kept checking it out. It's a real cheapy with no frills but I just couldn't get it out of my head for some reason. They were selling it for $170 in almost perfect condition. The only blemish is a small ding on the back. Probably from a belt buckle. I told my wife about it earlier in the week and said I kind of want to get it. Today while she was out shopping she went to the music store and bought it for me.
It's a Gretsch Electromatic Junior Jet. Just a slab of mahogany for the body, bolt on neck and Gretsch mini humbuckers. I was thinking about a set of P90s for it (again totally not me) after reading a lot of people online panning the minis but I kind of like the mini buckers. They are real gritty and nasty sounding. Very punk or strait ahead rock an roll. The guitar is just a simple rock machine. I've been playing it for the last hour with a little gain and fuzz and it's fun to play, sounds good and feels great.
Overall it's a cool guitar. I think the only sold for $300-350 new before they were discontinued.
