You all may remember (at least the ones of us young enough to still remember things) that I was looking at motorcycles. Well, I pulled the trigger and brought this beauty home yesterday.

Now, if it would just quit raining long enough to get some miles in.
 
Oh wow! That's a nice looking bike there. I tend to gravitate more to vintage style cycles and don't generally like the more street bike aesthetic, but BMW motorcycles seem to have found a way to make the street look classy. Hope the rain stops so you can enjoy!
 
wow....that bike is as big as your car!!!! (optical illusion, i know :grin:)

i don't see a lot of 'Beamer' bikes around here. i'm hoping those who ride them are not like those who drive 'Beamers'.

Most of the police departments around here drive BMW motorcycles.

The bike is almost as long as the car, but the car is a Yaris, so it is pretty small. They both get about the same gas milage.

The R1200 is extremely popular as a police bike. Not just in the US, but around the world. BMW even makes a version for police use. Instead of a passenger seat, it has a radio box and an extra battery.

The one thing that police departments like is that BMW will deliver a "ready to roll" bike configured with all of the equipment already on it. My father-in-law is an emergency vehicle upfitter and since BMW has offered this I see very few bikes in his shop.

Obviously, I'm overcompensating.

Well, it really isn't that big. Dry, she's a bit over 500 lbs., which is 100 to 200 pounds lighter than a Honda st1300 or big Vulcan. I wanted something that could comfortably handle me, the wife, and some gear on long highway trips.
