Herbalife "Nutrition Centers"

This seems to be the hot new trend around here. In the past few months these have popped up in just about every small town nearby. The open mic I went to today was in one; they have all these shakes and teas that are overpriced and, quite frankly, not very enticing. Strange fruit combinations and most likely dubious health claims. Are these a thing in your area?

I am pretty sure that they are. I wonder how many of these places will quickly fold, leaving folks in debt.

Yes. They paid out $200 million to their “distributors” after the FTC cracked down on them. And they paid out $20 million for lying about their business in China. And they got busted for bribing Chinese officials.

That would explain why they are finally popping up around here...

They are set up as coffeeshop type of things; selling to-go drinks of various sorts. I imagine folks are being told how they'll get rich with these stores, but I don't see them as having staying power just selling the drinks. I picture gullible folks going in debt paying rent on storefronts.

My parents sold Herbalife in the 80's. My father is a sucker for a pyramid scheme. He has done Melaluca oil, Herbalife, Body by Vi and a couple of others that he will adamantly tell you were not pyramid schemes. They are. He's kinda dumb when it comes to that for some reason. He's not a dumb guy. Just a sucker for the scam.

I've definitely encountered people trying to get others into their pyramid scheme, but I didn't know there were brick and mortar stores for it too

I have a feeling that it is a small town thing. There are plenty of empty storefronts and people wanting to be their own boss; I am sure the company fills them with stories of success. I just don't see enough people in the area wanting what they are selling, especially with one in every adjoining town.

Not only is Herbalife a scam, but they have been jersey sponsors of the league-favored, cheating, water-stealing, botox-injecting, smog-breathing, hated LA Galaxy (aka "Filth" or "Scum") for many years.

But not much of a market I guess. I would imagine it smells like Cali granola hippie bullshit to the average Bubba/Bubbette. "A broken clock is right 2x a day" applies here.

I remember there being Herbalife mall kiosks back in the 1990s. But they just sold boxes and bottles, not ready to go drinks.
