Help! Help! Volume drops with distortion on

I am rebuilding my board and I have my tuner, then eq, then overdrive, then distortion…and some stuff afterwards. Clean it sounds great…hit overdrive levels are fine. Hit distortion with OD on or OD off, the volume drops. I tried with two different units, a JHS 3 series distortion and a Boss DS-1, both maxxed on volume, but that volume is still lower than clean. Never had the issue before. Using a BBE supa charger. Could it be going bad?
 
Have you tried each pedal by itself to try and isolate if it's a problem with a specific pedal even when it's not interacting with other things on your board?
 
OK...results are in. I used to have my volume pedal as the first thing in the chain...then I read some stuff on the internet and I moved it around and put it in the middle of the chain: it was after the dirt and modulation and before the delay and reverb. I can't explain it but for some reason that messed the volume up on both the distortion and fuzz pedals. Even running guitar into distortion into volume pedal into amp (so only effect on chain being the distortion), I ended up with a high clean volume that went down when I turned on the pedal. So I moved the volume pedal back to the front of the chain and it sounds fine.

Current chain:
Ernie Ball VP Jr - Arion Stage Tuner - Boss GE7 EQ - Bad Monkey Overdrive - JHS 3 Series Distortion - EHX Big Muff Pi - BBE Boosta Grande - BBE Mind Bender - Wampler Reflection Reverb - Amp.

I took the delay completely off the chain because that thing has given me trouble for a while (and I took it off before testing everything).

Messed with the impedance somewhere along the line. Did the tone noticeably change, too?
