Help! Hello, Columbus...

How did I get here?
Ohio.

In the next two months or so, I will be relocating to that area for a promotion. Gotta go where the opportunity is, so...at least my travel radius will be a little smaller.

Me and the Mrs. (provided we are still together through all this rolleyes1 ), are looking to land outside of the city, preferably a bit more rural, so I would like to know if anyone has any knowledge of the smaller suburbs/towns NE, E, or SE of the city. We are looking for a bit of quiet and safety, and the only work requirement is to be within an hour or so of John Glenn International. Don't need anything big, and the area doesn't need to be perfect.

I know we have a few Ohio folks here, but I don't know if anyone besides the erstwhile @BoomBoomBigelow (hope you are doing better, sir!) lives in the C-Bus area.

Any ideas?
 
my better half grew up in dublin (NE). My impression is that's pretty affluent and dull, but probably quite safe. Definitely suburban though, as opposed to actually rural.

they do have a field of giant concrete corn though!
 
@weebz is from Columbus, but I can't remember the last time he posted here. I have quite a few friends up that way, so Ash and I make a trip up there every couple of months. You're always welcome to come down our way to visit! :Wave:
 
I’ve only been through Ohio once in my life. When I was 12, my grandparents took me and my cousin to Michigan and we went through Ohio. I have no idea what part we went through and barely remember going through it.

Good luck with the move and it does put you closer to the barn.

Columbus is a nice city. Lots of things to do.

I have relatives in Dublin and Worthington. Both are nice suburbs. Arena district is fun. Good luck!
 
The Columbus zoo is in/near Dublin isn't it? From what I remember, the area near the zoo was fairly upscale, looked like a 'nice' suburb idn_smilie It's all the way over on the other side of Columbus from the airport though.

From my experience driving to Barnstock this year, if you head just east of Columbus, it starts getting into rolling hills and limestone mountainous-looking areas like what you see in West Virginia & Kentucky. So if you like that kind of thing... (also hilly SE of Columbus, the way I went to Pragestock). The area just SE of Lancaster is beautiful. Check out pics of Hocking Hills State Park :)

The west side is much more flat cornfields and such.

Yup - these are the areas I am interested in. Lots of cheap real estate, but still well within my distance requirement to the airport. Looking from Newark-ish south to Lancaster-ish.

Originally, I was going to be able to pick an area further east toward the WV/PA border, which scenically is much more desirable, but that got shot down. I will have quite a bit of work toward Columbus, with the OSU Medical Center and such.
