Hokay, so here's de erth...Dayum!

I was at the office late last night, watched some of the suggestions what were available streaming

I finished Bullitt : Grade: C
Boring Dialog, Boring Acting, Boring Plot
AMAZING vintage muscle car chase scene!!

Then i watched Road Warrior : Grade: C+
First reaction: WTF
Seriously, that movie is so fucking weird. I'm not even sure I'd call it a 'guy' movie. Yeah, sure, there's killing, cool cars and vehicles, dystopian landscape anarchy, a few boobies, kooky characters. But I can't put my finger on it, it's more of a Teenage Boy movie than a Grown-Ass Man movie.
Also, homoerotic undertones... messedup0

more to come... Die Hard is scheduled to arrive Monday, and though I've seen it, it has been years...

That's how I feel about most movies that are considered "man movies" and 90% of the ones that you were recommended were movies I've either found completely disinteresting altogether, or have lost their luster in the time between now and when my balls first dropped.

I've been doing a little thinking, trying to come up with real Guy Movies. Here's a few. Maybe you'll see the difference between "Wow explosions and boobs" and "THAT was badass!".

Guy Movies:
Raging Bull
Boondock Saints
James Bond Movies (most)
The Count of Monte Cristo
The Departed
Field of Dreams
Indiana Jones

Got an idea now? Road Warrior, while entertaining at times, was a juvenile kid's movie. Not that there's anything wrong with that, sometimes that's exactly what I want, what I need. But liking it isn't a requirement for rights to your man card.

The original Vanishing Point is an awesome guy movie. Since it's playoff time Slapshot should get a guy movie mention as well.

those plus boondock saints (favorite movie and all action yet funny), the departed, casino royale, blackhawk down, pulp fiction (must see), blood diamond, and the bourne movies. oh and the first 3 indiana jones. the last one sucks
 
OK, Today is Sunday, and since Die Hard is still in the mail I'll have to find something streaming to watch while grading. The last homework is a BITCH to grade and always takes FOREVER so I'll probably get a few in at least before I'm done. (Plus I grade a lot slower when I'm watching movies at the same time :grin:)

On the Queue in this order:
Taxi Driver
Cool Hand Luke
Inglorious Bastards

..and if time permits (or later in the week) I'll check out Charlie Varrick.

33 minutes in to Taxi Driver and so far so good, but there's one thing I've noticed that I just gotta comment on. After watching Bullitt and now this in the past couple days I'm finding older drama/action movies are really suspenseful to watch. And the reason I believe is this; Newer movies are so predictable. I can watch 30 minutes of just about any movie that came out in the past decade and know exactly what's going to happen. And even if there is a 'surprise twist' that I don't know, I at least can predict the forcoming presence of a 'surprise twist' and can start guessing as to what it will be.

In older movies the 'rules' are different. It's not plotted like a high school essay (introduction that explains the whole movie, cool shit in the middle, ending that nicely wraps everything up). When danger, or mystery, or conflict presents itself in an older movie I can't automatically assume it's building to a climax, sometimes it just dies. When 'impending doom' music is playing, sometimes nothing happens.

Does anyone know wtf I'm talking about? It's really a breath of fresh air, to be honest.
