I never watched American Idol until last season...I have three daughters and a wife who LOVE it...

so now I watch it...

worse, I enjoy it. thwap

I watch the first few shows when they tell people who think they can sing that they really can't sing. Once it gets to the final contestants - I don't watch.

I've been watching True Beauty and love it when they hammer the contestants at the end of the show. It's great.

Everyone else in the family watches it on occasion. I pop in and out while they are watching it, but I generally avoid it like the plague.

Who's gonna 'fess up and admit to watching it to see what all the bikini chick hype was about?

They talked about that on the radio this morning. Both of the anchors of the morning radio news show I listen to every morning are Idol addicts. And they both hate the new judge - whoever she is...

My public service announcement for the day. If bikini-clad gals are NSFW, then this vid is NSFW.

I have never ever seen not one episode of american idol ever. once. ever.

Last night i was doing my new daily thing on the elliptical at the apartment gym, i flipped through the channels and could not believe how utterly crappy TV these days is. The only thing that was half decent was "Cash Cab", and that got old pretty darn fast.

Im glad i dont have TV at home. :embarrassed:

I like AI once they get past the annoying auditions and get down to the people who can sing. Once they get there, AI has a great band, and it can be fun to sit around with the Missus and critique people's talent and style preferences. What's not to like? It's live music on teevee? It's better than the stupid news.

I've never watched American Idol, but I did get sucked into Rock Star when it was on, though I liked the INXS version a lot better than the SuperNova one.

Rockstar was fun if a bit annoying. I missed the INXS one but I did see Supernova. It really reinforced what a bunch of douche bags Dave Navarro, Jason Newstead and Gilby Clarke were. Tommy Lee was just himself...

It also proved what mediocre musicians each of the guys in Supernova were, too....

The INXS was was a lot better than the Supernova one. I think the competitors had a lot more talent and personality on the whole.

Plus, it was a fresher concept. I may not think the same if I saw it again after seeing the second season. idn_smilie

I think theres only so many ways to do a show like that...it would really depend on the personalities and skills of the musicians...

Supernova was so bad because, apart from Tommy Lee, the people critiquing the performances really didn't have the chops to back what they were saying. Plus, you could just tell that the band was going nowhere after the show concluded. That said, I'll watch Raphael Moreira and that house band play covers on teevee whenever they want to put it on. smi

I think Jason Newstead giving singers advice on vocal technique was the most cringeworthy.

towards the end my wife (who has spent the better part of the last decade hanging around working musicians and can see through stuff like that) refused to watch "those fucking douchebags"
