I don't know why the Guild Mays are so sought out and command these prices, because they are the most incorrect of the BM copies. Having said that, back in the day, I went to Make'n Music (when they were in their original store and before they got uber-booteeky), and they had a black one that was near mint for $800. Hindsight and all, I guess I shoulda bit the bullet and bought it, then stuck it in a closet for about 25 years.

What other copies are out there? I understand Brian has one he is selling now, that is less expensive as well, like more in the neighborhood of $7oo?? (EDIT: $754.65 given today's exchange rate.). http://shop.brianmayguitars.co.uk. I wonder how this one is. I like the hardware color better. And it has a Wilkinson Trem.

Burns had the previous run of them before May put them out under his own brand, and those were closer to the current copies than the Guilds were.

I also believe RS Guitarworks makes a licensed, custom copy that gets even closer to the actual Red Special, but that's a-gonna cost you :)

By those, do you mean the Burns ones?

Sorry - I'll try to clarify.

The original Guild copies (like the one up yonder) were quite a ways away from the original Red Special spec (although upon further review, there was a second Guild run in the '90s which got closer). Then Burns got the nod from May around the late '90s/early '00s, and THOSE seemed to be a bit closer to spec than the original guild run had.

Hope that clears (muddies) up what I was trying to say...

That's the one I have, and it's very very good. The Wilkinson on it is marvellous.
