Going to a concert alone?

Dudeman1967

blah, blah, blah...
Am I a loser? I'm not sure I care but let me know.

I just bought a single ticket to see Robin Trower. I found a single front row seat and decided to go it alone. I usually buy two tickets and invite a friend at no cost to them. It's amazing that sometimes I have to talk people into seeing a free concert. Going alone saves that hassle. I don't think I would want to see most shows alone but sometimes the situation calls for it.

Years ago I went to see Porcupine Tree alone because nobody I knew wanted to go. It was the only time they ever played in St Louis.

I saw Blue Oyster Cult alone out of town on my way to buy some guitars. Because I was buying a single ticket I was able purchase a seat in the front row a week before the show.

What say you?

I go to concerts alone all the time and always have, I don't think twice about it. Flying solo is nice because you get to make your own decisions about where to be, when to bounce, drinks, logistics, etc.

Ms. Dmn and I share a lot of the same musical tastes and interests, but it doesn't always overlap. And sometimes she has a different set of criteria for whether she'll find a show enjoyable or not. If she's got room to get up and dance and snake through the crowd and do her thing, then she's totally happy. But sitting or standing for extended periods in some venues is more than she wants to mess with some nights. And she wants an emotional connection to the music. I'm less discriminating that way. I'm willing to take chances on acts I've never heard before. I just like a good band or artist.

I went to a show one time with a dude I kinda sorta knew from work, wish I'd gone alone

Schoolboy error. I was once offered freebies from a colleague to the Pet Shop Boys which I'm sure would have been awesome (the gig that is) but he was very weird in work, I didn't want to see what he was like in the wild.

Going to gigs alone is fine. I went up and down to London in a day on my own to see Springsteen.

I’ve done it multiple times. It seems weird at first. But then you realize that when you do go with people they’re usually just standing next to you because it’s too loud to have a conversation. So things aren’t all that different.

So far, I have never been to a concert alone. I always buy at least 2 tickets. Back when I was single, sometimes, large groups of friends would all go to concerts, Grateful Dead, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Steve Miller, The Allman Brothers Band, etc.

As I single guy, I went to quite a few shows with my younger brother and his 1st wife when they lived in Colorado, Gathering of the Tribes, Fishbone, Aerosmith, Dinosaur Jr, Firehose, etc. Now he’s back in Colorado with his 3rd wife. My brother and I went to Peter Gabriel a few years back with a group of friends. He usually goes to shows with his wife which he says is a mixed bag. Lol! Fortunately, he can’t hear her complain while the bands play.

I went to a lot of concerts with a close friend when I was single, Lolapalooza, Dio, Iron Maiden, Pearl Jam, Social Distortion, etc. He no longer lives in the US.

When I was first dating my wife I took her to concerts, Sting, RUSH, Cheap Trick, etc. The longer we’ve been married, the fewer concerts we’ve attended together. She recently went to a Bee Gees tribute band concert with her sister and some friends.

A couple of years ago, I got 2 tickets to Chris Isaak, thinking my wife and I’d go together. She didn’t want to go. My younger brother was working. My son was camping. So, I invited a girl from work at the last minute. She turned out to be annoying. Lol! I should have gone alone.

I got to know a lot of the Dad’s when my son was in Boy Scouts. I’ve stayed friends with a few of them. I’ve gone to see local bands, cover bands, tribute bands, etc with a few of them.

These days, I usually take my son to concerts. He just turned 22. He’s pretty much game for any music. His first concert as a young boy was The Neville Brothers. My wife and I both took him.

My son and I recently saw Gov’t Mule. We have tickets to see the Damned. In the past we went to Tedschi Trucks Band, Blues Traveler, Mike Dawes, Moe, Tommy Emmanuel, etc.

I have thought about going to shows by myself, but it has not yet happened. It seems like the drive there and back would be a bit lonely, but the concert part should be fine. Strangers have often interacted with me at shows during the quiet parts between sets. I’m friendly and approachable. I like meeting new people.

I think it’s brave to go to a concert by yourself. Maybe, I haven’t done it because I’m insecure or something. Perhaps, I’m the loser.

I recently started going skiing by myself. It’s much more fun to go with someone else, but it’s fine alone. I always meet new people skiing, usually others that are by themselves. Sometimes, I ski runs with strangers. Unfortunately, skill levels don’t typically match up, but it’s still fun to take a few runs with a friend I just met and have a few beers together. My wife gets a little bit insecure if I tell her about a woman I met while skiing. So, I don’t talk about it. My wife doesn’t ski. She’s quite the homebody these days.

Ive done it on rare occasions. The last time was several yrs ago. I drove up to Nashville on a Sat to see a free outdoor concert. For some reason I couldnt talk the Mrs into going, prob cause it was middle of the summer and hot AF. They had blocked off lower Broadway to traffic and I got to see Leftover Salmon and the Hard Working Americans with Todd Snider/Neal Casal RIP.

I did one time. It was a Who concert in 1979. This was shortly after the deaths that occurred in Cincinnati after people were killed. Philadelphia was either the next stop or stop after that. I didn't have tickets for the show but figured there should be plenty available after Cincinnati. No one wanted to go so I went myself. Tickets were real cheap and I had a great time.

I've been to shows alone. I usually just strike up a conversation with whoever is sitting next to me. People are usually chatty at concerts.

I've gone to several alone. It's pretty much the only way I can go these days, my wife doesn't care for music concerts and I don't have a lot of friends that I know well enough to invite or that like music enough. And I don't go too often either. But I do miss the pre/post concert banter.

High school was the last time I went with someone who wasn’t an adult. I would want to watch the guitar players and they would want to do stupid shit.

After that it was always with my wife, son, daughter, significant other who went to pay attention to the show. I’m not condemning anyone who goes to shows to do anything
but watch the show but I want to see and hear what’s going on. So going alone would not make me feel weird at all. Going with a distraction would though.
