FX Loop Weird Tinny Sound

BlockInlay

Bananas
so I have my M13 hooked up to my Orange Thunderverb 50 via the 4 cable method. The effects going into the front of the amp sound fine.

Anything that goes into the FX loop of the amp sounds mostly fine but there’s a weird tinny coloring of the sound. It’s subtle but once you notice it you can’t unnotice it. It’s eapecially prominent on delay tails or with a boost in the loop turned on.

This amp has a buffered loop. Not sure what’s causing the problem or hierarchy to trouble shoot it.

Any ideas?

Are you able to disable the buffer on the loop? There might be buffering in both the m13 and the loop that might not agree. Have you tried the m13 in front and some different pedals in the loop to test if it’s not the m13?

Running the M13 in front, all effects sound normal. There’s a very obvious change when I A/B front vs loop.

I don’t know if I can turn off the buffering on the amp or the M13. I’ll have to check.

Not sure I have any other pedals to put in the loop aside from an OD. I can try it though.

I’ll be honest, I don’t care for using effects loops in my own rig. And I have the kind of rig where it would be very worthwhile to run the 4 cables but I think I’m just too used to everything in front of the amp thase days.

Are the effects in the loop using the same power supply as the ones out front? Also, do any of your effects reverse the phase internally?

I should probably just ditch using the loop. My new band doesn’t call for much in terms of effects. I’d like to solve this problem nonetheless.

Put the od in the loop and see if it’s tinny. Or even just a jumper cable across.

The tube is the one that isn’t a 12ax7.

Probabably a 12au7 or at7.

It would be good to figure out though. I’d try what tele suggests regardless.

Hard to tell with the OD in the loop. If by bridging you mean connecting the same cable into the send and return, I don’t hear a change.

Might need to borrow a delay pedal to test further.

Shuddup chad!

Still need to figure out what’s wrong with the fx loop

It may not be the effects loop. If the buttons on the looper stopped working, maybe it’s the unit. In your clip, it didn’t sound tinny until you engaged the effect. I know I don’t use loops, but it would seem if you are plugged into the loop and the loop itself was the issue, you’d hear it.

Try jumping it like Tele suggested. If the noise isn’t there, sounds to me it is the unit.
