Finally.............New Amp Day

I think Aahzz has traded 4 guitars and 3 amps in the amount of time I sold one amp and bought one. But it is finally here!

I dont get many new gear days so I am going to milk it.

So I had a few deals fall through both on the selling end and buying end. I was getting pretty pissed but it actually worked in my favor. It dragged the process out long enough to stumble on the best deal I had seen yet. It is a Peavey Classic 30 (I think Prages gets commission on this deal). The guy said it was only 3 months old and I believe him. I would have believed it was new. His price was cheaper than the others I tried to buy and they were 10 years old. Anyway, this guy wanted more clean headroom so he sold it.

Soooooo, I get to the house after work and am greeted by this:

This thing looks brand new. He even threw in a couple of extra tubes. Actually he had upgraded them and sen the originals along. I played it for about an hour and just loved it. It especially liked the Tele.

Hopefully, I will get to really spend some time with it tomorrow.

Thanks fellas. I got to play it some last night but not long. I had some more time today to start playing with all the knobs and stuff and I am really loving it. It does exactly what I had hoped. I wanted something that would sound good at "play at home" volumes and it really does. I dont have to play really low but courteous to others in the house............ til they leave. biggrin

I have been playing the clean channel on about 3 (or I guess 9 o'clock is the official amp way to say it) and it is nice. I havent really cranked up the crunchy channel but am able to get the tones I was hoping for at "reasonable" volumes. Plus, the just breaking up level on channel 2 with the tele is freakin sweet.

Very happy.

And you're probably close to right - my current trade series is 7 trades in.....but it's trading with a *mission*....

That amazes me but mostly becuase of the pace. It took me forever to find a buyer for my amp and longer to find the right deal on the amp I bought. You have a gift.

AND, the more I play this thing the more I love it.

If I didnt suck so bad, this thing would really sound great. idn_smilie

Seriously, give it a try. With the EQ all the way up, the amp really opens up.
 
I'll have to try that. I have bass on about 10, mid at 6 or 7, and treble at maybe 4 on the clean channel. I will definitely crank them open and check that out.

I was a little confused about the pre and post gains but was playing with that last night and have a better handle on it. From what I can tell, the post gain is like the volume for channel 2 and the pre is more like what I would call gain. So, at a given volume, you get more break up or saturation by turning up the pre gain.

What I am finding most different from my moddeling amp is that the knobs and adjustments act like they should. I am definitely enjoying the process of dialing in what I like more than I did scrolling through 400 preset models.

I live really close to work so I will definitely be going home for lunch more often. No one home so I can play as loud as I want. biggrin
 
You'll die when you hear the gain channel cranked up to about 5 or 6. :embarrassed:

It sounds like you got the controls figured out. Pre is the gain level and post is the volume for the OD channel.

Also, if you crank the clean channel to about 4 or 5, it'll be loud, but it'll start breaking up really well.

Those setting actually do sound good with my Legacy (my avatar). The humbucker sounds good no matter what the setting but the various single coil positions need the added treble especially.

My tele didnt like those setting though. It was a little too honky.

Oh, and I'm home for lunch and no one is here so I have been playing it a lot louder. I know you said it before but it sounds very good at lower volumes, exactly what I wanted. But it does sound better cranked. biggrin
