fender blues jr vs bugera V22

as you might have read my friend is giving me a pretty good price on the fender and for $50 more i can get the bugera.

I have never played the fender but i play the bugera all the time when i go to my local GC and i really like it. both channels sound great to me.

like i said i have never played the fender but i will get a chance to play on this week.

i play blues and classic rock. but sometimes i like to try metallica or coheed and cambria. so i play a bit of everything.

i know about the problems with bugera's pedals and im not too worried about that. i just play at home.

what do you guys think?
 
Although the BJ is a not bad deal at $300, I would pay the extra $50 for the Bugera - that way, 1) you have some time to return it if you find out it's not for you, and 2) you will at least have a warranty.

Having played both and owning the BJ briefly, given the choice I would go for the Bugera - more versatile, and you can get some nice crunch at lower volumes. I like the BJ OK, but IMO it does its best clean.

I'm a bad one to ask about Fender amps...I used to sell them at the place I worked before I opened Premier Music and grew to hate pretty much all of them. They have new models out and it seems like their products have improved greatly but I don't have much nice stuff to say baout the Blues Junior other than it's probably the best of the newer tube amps I've tried from Fender. Never tried the Bugera so I can't give an opinion on that one.

I did a couple of clips of the Blackheart amp that I just bought this week if you can spend $349:

I have a Blues Jr at the house. My nephew has one as well.
He plays his at smaller gigs. The damn thing gets loud for a little amp.
Clean sounds are terrific. There isn't any drive to speak of. You have to add your own. Reverb is typical Fender goodness.
Well made. Should last a lifetime.

Bugera, I only know from what I read, so.......



Just don't put GFS in your Duesenberg, for crying out loud.

I have a Bugera V22 and I can honestly say I am totally satisfied with the amp. Great crunch sound, great higher gain sound, great clean channel. I can pop new tubes in and bias them myself even with my minuscule electrical knowledge. Switchable between 13, and 22 watts makes it very versatile and the sounds between pentode and triode are very different.

Also it takes pedals well. I actually got the amp to tide me over until I got back on my feet and could afford something more expensive but now I don't plan on getting another amp unless this thing were to catch on fire.

I don't like the Blues Junior. It sounds ok clean but it really isn't very versatile unless you plan on running a pedalboard in front of it. The OD on that thing is a turd.

Mark,as I said in the amp forum - that Blackheart sounds downright yummy! It seems to have a beefier, less midrangey sound than most Fenders I've played. Now I need to get a cab for my Killer Ant! It'll have to wait until next payday, since I bought another guitar today! :(

BTW, RC's Bigsby is one cool looking and sounding guitar! Those are made by Gretsch (Fred Gretsch III was a personal friend of Paul Bigsby, and when Paul wanted to retire and unload Bigsby, he gave Fred first dibbs on the company). Why did RC ditch the single coils, and put in Gibson pickups?

Thanks! I've been digging it...I'm pretty excited about making it point to point (for the ultimate corksniffer experience :embarrassed:) but that'll have to wait for a while.

I'm not entirely sure about the guitar...
 
How about the Blackheart Handsome Devil? I think that would be right around the same money - maybe a tad more, but the switeable 7/15 watts adds to the versatility. But if you don't plan on playing out, even to jam, you probably don't need 20 watts, or even 15 for that matter.

Try to play two side by side. That is how I picked my Vox VT30.
 
I've done a little recording with the Blues Jr. and was pretty happy with the results. Definitely want a pedal for your overdriven tones. The biggest complaint I hear is that it sounds boxy, which is true to some degree, but all small amps sound a little boxy to me. I believe the Bugera will be more versatile, and they sound decent, but I would never buy one just due to the overwhelming amount of failure reports I've heard, and yeah, they're Behringers.
 
the problem with the "overwhelming amount of failure reports" is that thats all you hear about. you dont here about the people who dont have problems because they are at home playing it instead of talking trash about other things.
 
Yeah, I suppose. I guess try out the Fender and see which one you like better. I see the Blues Jr.'s all day long on Craigslist for $300, so your buddy's not giving you a real smoking deal.

Mine has never had a hiccup since last October. No channel switching bug. People tend to forget when Vox's started rolling out of China there were all sorts of reliability issues, cold solder joints, etc. Now they are regarded as pretty decent amps. There were some issues early on with some of the Bugera stuff but I think for the most part they have been sorted out.
