WTF: Eczema and related skin conditions

Does anyon else here have bad eczema?

I used to have eczema as a child, pretty severe at time, but always only at certain spots. In my twenties it completely disappeared.

Long story short, it has returned with a vengeance and it is worse than I ever had. It has spread all over my body ( i mean ALL OVER), my skin is leaking fluids and my skin is swollen. Apparently my eczema is infected,hence the swelling and leaking. I feel like I am burning up and I am shivery cold at the same time. I was given antibiotics for the infection 3 days ago but so far I don't notice any difference. I can barely sleep as being in bed is either too hot or too cold and the constant itch and pain is driving me insane.

Seeing the doctor today, hopefully they can give me some steroid creme or something that actually helps.

anyone else have has similar experiences?
 
My oldest son has eczema. When he was younger it was really bad. We thought he was going to have a hard life but here we are, he's 18 and it has all but gone away. New fear unlocked for him though. Mojo to you. I'd definitely be interested to hear why it is happening if you find out. That's valuable info as you well know.

I never had eczema but yours sound really bad. My only advice when you get better is don’t use store …I.e big brand soaps and shit. Keep things simple and natural . Aleppo soap (a type not a brand) is good stuff as are similar olive oil, shea butter etc… also laundry wash… go for something unscented and basic rather than Tide fresh mountain air scent
Finally avoid Peen if you see him as he is w a walking hazmat
 
Mojo. I was just diagnosed with eczema but all I have is some dry and cracking skin on a finger.

I don't have eczema but something adjacent that a real PITA when it flares up. After a couple years of misdiagnoses (including eczema, rosacea, and lupis) & being prescribed topicals & meds that fucked things up even worse, I finally figured out what I had going on and pushed my dermatologist and GP to getting me on the right treatment plan that works. Good luck with getting yourself squared away and feeling better in your skin.

i have psoriasis and it's not fun. not "everywhere", but enough.
clue: it (and eczema also, i think) are NOT dermatitis issues. they're autoimmune issues.
get a referral to a rheumatologist.

there are quite a few medicines that help both, however, some can be STUPID expensive.
for instance, one of the best ones for psoriasis is Tremfya, and it costs.......wait for it.......$13,000 per dose, 6 times per year. you read that right, $13K.
do not get me going on our 'for profit' health care system!!!! :mad:
(not trying to make it political....but for FUCK'S SAKE!!!)

that's actually one of the cheaper biologics. Embrel and Humera, which are the most commonly prescribed, are like another 10K+ on top of that....Remicade infusions are like 100-150K annual.
 
I have something like that but so far the dozen or so dermatologists I’ve been to, can’t figure it out. I’ve basically given up and just deal with it.

well, 13K x 6 (plus the two starter doses) = 104,000 for the first year, and i don't think it can be taken for more than that. idk, doesn't matter, can't afford it.
i have health care, but we do have an upper limit and then after that it's like 80% your problem. or something.

Before my Dad passed he went through something very similar to wok, in total agony with an extreme severe case all over his body.
Finally he got to a dermatologist who told Mom to go buy mass quantities of Cetaphil or CeraVe moisturizing creme and slather that stuff on thick all over his body several times a day. She said his skin had totally dried out and should be aggressively moisturized. After a week or two and 5-6 jars of moisturizer it totally cleared up, smooth as a baby ass.

Have you looked into the MFG's cost support program? You'd be surprised how easy it is to get your out of pocket cost down to next to nothing. I've done that w/ both humera and embrel and in both cases, my co-pay wound up at like 5-10 bucks. My out of pocket for humera is $35 annually.

I guess I am lucky because here in Scotland all prescriptions are free ( well, at the counter). Everyone here pays a small percentage of their wages into the National Health Service, which is automatically deducted so you don’t even notice it. I am ok with communism :lol:

Hey we got the best doctors in the world in mericuh and it’ll only cost you 1.5 million do out of pocket but with insurance it will only cost you. 6 million after the insurance “negotiates” a cheaper price….god bless mericuh home of the free and dying
 
Btw The antibiotic tablets/capsules they gave me are HUGE. Struggling to swallow then with water. They even give advice to not lie down after taking them, as it may cause stomach ache (it did)
 
@wok, seriously go buy yourself a tub of CeraVe and slather yourself up all over with it 3-4 times a day. Of corse you need prescription steroids or something but the CeraVe something you can do right now to start getting some relief! The drugs wont work unless your skin in moisturized enough for it to heal.
