Question: Do we have any pedal Steel players here?

That clip was way too short. Love pedal steel too. Unfortunately, I don't play one.
 
Something I always wanted to try but never shelled out the bucks or time.
Now I'm too dang old to learn anything that complicated and too feeble to shelp it to a gig;0
I fool with dobro and lap a bit, mostly square neck reso in high G, bluegrass style.

That was cool, but isn't it mostly a Dobro trick? I may be wrong but don't most pedal/lap steels have a lower action; more akin to a guitar?

I wish I could play pedal steel. I love that sound, and there are only a couple guys around here that play that I'm aware of. I do have this "lap pedal" contraption that somebody over on the old HC forums built (I've unfortunately totally forgotten his name) that has a couple of the more common levers bolted on to the top. Gets a cool sound if you take your time and play around with it.

Incidentally, Neko Case did a great cover of that song in your video from back before she went all Starbucks bland on us.

You're right in that it wouldn't do much good on a pedal steel (they've got pedals to do that), but you're wrong in that pedal and lap have lower action. A pedal doesn't even have a fretboard, so the strings are way above the body of the guitar. A lap should be way up there, too.
