I sold some stuff and bought one of these recently and I think it is the coolest piece of guitar gear I have bought to date. I suck and I probably don't know good from not but this thing has a guitar in my hand most every day and looking forward to it.

I have always believed that playing to some sort of beat or backing is essential so I would have to pull up a backing track or use a beat app on my phone. I hate metronomes. This thing is fantastic because I can play something into it and immediately have the beat I need and get going. If I want to work on something different, clear it and make a new one. Takes seconds.

I like the looper a lot too. It's super easy because I don't have to make sure I hit the button at the exact right time. Ever since I have been goofing around with the guitar I have been completely lost at any type of improvisation. I actually just figured I would stop fooling myself into thinking it was possible. With this pedal, I have improved greatly in a week. I play a progression into it to get a beat. Then I play the progression into the looper so I have a beat and a rhythm guitar. Then I have an endless loop of it so I can try licks over and over again. I still suck but I feel progress.

I think it is too expensive but had money burning a hole and have always been intrigued. The guitars have been hanging on the wall a while so it was either get this and play or just get rid of everything.

Just stopped in to say that.
 
I still want one of those...a friend picked one up and has sent me a few things he's done with it and it sounds like a ton of fun.
 
How is it for downtempo hard rock and metal? I sold the original Trio because I felt it didn't do those.

I'm probably the wrong guy to ask. I'm just a hack. But in reading and watching reviews online that is an area it has supposedly improved. I know originally a lot of people wanted it to be a better live tool and apparently it is that too but I have always seen it as a practice and songwriting tool.

I have also found that although youtube videos seem to show people playing fairly complex rhythm into it while it "learns", I find it works best if you keep the rhythm a little more simple to get it to play the beat how you want. That could just be because I end up flubbing a chord or something and it causes the bass player to hit a clanker.

For me it not only gets the juices flowing but the flow is better. I walk in the room, turn the amp on, turn the trio on, tap the button and play a progression into it and I'm off and running. No looking through files for the beat or backing track I want. I like the idea that I can program in song parts too so the songs I'm trying to learn to play and sing can easily be called up and I can run through as much as I want.
 
I have the original as well. It's a cool pedal. With the Plus out, you can get the original for next to nothing.
 
How is it for recording? Can I plug in my guitar, and have something come out that sounds like a whole band?

You need to demo this for me next time I'm out your way. It sounds really cool but I have the feeling I wouldn't figure it out fast enough and it would be back on Reverb in a week
