I ran into Devon MacRae at NEFFA and loved the guitars he made. We talked about price, and it looks like under $2000 is doable. Here is a look at one of his guitars; this is the sound hole that I want.

He has a nice piece of walnut for the back and sides and also some cherry wood. It will have a K and K pickup installed as well. I am pretty psyched. (And shocked at myself for going for a less-traditional look.)

I decided if I am going to go custom I don't want it to look like every other mass-produced guitar. Plus I have always liked the triangular sound hole since I saw this guitar:

In all seriousness, I was thinking you were missing your Lunas.

I'm not an acoustic guy, but the one in that pic looks awesome. The bridge w/ a tailpiece is interesting.

As negotiations continue, it seems like I am going with cherry wood and a flat-top. Timeline in about two months. Assuming that Devon sends me photos during the process, I will keep you updated. :hippie:

Wow - that was quick! Love the figure on the spruce. I had a Martin SWOMGT with the same combo (i.e. sitka over cherry), and it was a beautiful-sounding guitar. Can't remember exactly why I sold it! If my MIK Takamine 12-string ever gives up the ghost (sitka over maple - it's built like a tank), I would certainly consider something like that.
