Creating an Impulse Response from an analog speaker sim

As I mentioned in another thread, I just love the sound of the Palmer PDI-09 speaker sim/DI. How would I go about creating an Impulse response of it? Anyone have any know-how on IR creation?

Never did one myself, but these are 2 decent tutorials on making IRs...

I think, using Joey's method, you could run the white noise signal through the Palmer and route it back into the DAW as if you were mic'ing a cabinet...

Stupid question: Since it's all direct and I'm not driving a speaker cab, do I still need an amp?
Also, at about 65 in this vid, the guy starts talking about phase and doing some shit to bring up the volume, and he lost me.

I can't check the video until tonight...

No, since you're not actually driving a speaker you don't need an amp...the signal coming out of the Palmer equates to the signal coming out of a mic on a cab...run the white noise out of your interface, into the Palmer, then back to the interface and you should be good...

Holy shit! It worked! I didn't (couldn't) mess around with the phase, so I just cranked the level to about -6 db before I rendered. Then I loaded it into the POD Go, and it sounded like it should.
My plan is to snag a Celestion IR pack, then record a comparison of my faves from that pack against the "Best IR in the World," the Palmer IR, and the actual physical Palmer.

Now that you mention it, a swirling vortex did appear in my music room while I was doing this.
It went away, though, so I think it's OK.
