Contractors, WTF?

So, when Hurricane Ike blew through Columbus last month it took down a few shingles off the back of my house and loosened up some of my gutters, not really a big deal at all. After having a lot of problems with the last contractor that worked on replacing my roof 2 years ago, I decided to call one of the "big dogs" in town to come out and give me an estimate, thinking that they are the "big dogs" for a reason, they don't fuck over their customers. Anyway, they couldn't come out for 5 weeks, so I scheduled an appointment and decided to wait it out. Meanwhile my wife finds some local guy that says he can come out and check it out a lot quicker, so I schedule an appointment to meet him at 5:30 last friday. At 5:27 some chick from his office calls and says he has to reschedule, not too big of a deal but still annoying. So I reschedule for 6:embarrassed:0 last night, and guess what? the guy just never shows up. It seems like every single time I deal with an idependent contractor they have ridiculously bad customer service. Is this just in the secret contractors code or something? ???
 
yes, small jobs come last...that's the code. at least that is what the contractor I tried to hire to fix my side walk told me. >:(
 
I think in the interest of making sure they are kept busy, they tend to way overbook themselves.

But they do seem to be just flat unrealiable too. I dont know why, but does seem to go with that business.
 
It's pretty much par for the course.

Basically what they do is tell people they can finish the job about 75% faster than it's actually going to take, yet they still schedule other things to start when the first job was supposed to be finished. It makes them look more 'in-demand' I guess.

It's really not that pressing, but I do need my gutters fixed before winter starts. I might try and do it myself. At least it will give the neighbors a few laughs. ;D
 
just make sure you tie off the ladder, the neighbors laugh really hard once you hit the ground ;D
 
And the shady side of the roof is usually slippery, at least was here in SoCal. Actually a bit mossy or something.

I found that out the hard way.
 
I tried to fix my roof when i first bought my house. It had a leak at the top of the apex, so I went up there caulk gun full of roof sealant and proceeded to slide down the roof once the shingles gave way and luckily landed on the second story addition roof and caught hold of the gutter before exiting the premises like a sled off a cliff.

So I got up and brushed myself off, went inside and put on a clean pair of underwear, sank into the gravity field of my couch and called a roofer ;D
 
I have heard you talk about it, but i dont know the actual story. Is this the asian pirate thing?

You couldnt even come up with a story that good for a movie script. hahahahaha
 
And you arent really a small dude, you can prolly look pretty intimidating when you want to. hahahaha
