Consumerism Jam: What Stuff Do You Spend Extra On?

Kitchen stuff and cannabis + paraphernalia.

Sometimes it gets crazy and I combine the two... wowie wowie. (Or Maui Wowie... )

It isn't 1976 and weed has come a long way. Dab rigs, vapes, pipes, papers... I like to collect them all. My grandmother has a curio cabinet full of little glass cats and figurines, and I have a curio cabinet filled with glass pieces.

i've (i think) still got some picks i got from Ted Nugent, personally, if you want them. i think they're TNWB logoed picks. (Ted Nugent World Bowhunters)

Not much. I’m pretty low maintenance and focus on utility. Even with things I like (records, kitchen shit, music gear, etc.) I tend to favor minimally viable stuff that allows me max enjoyment or max creativity with the least investment.

I've got a box full of my old Hot Wheels from my childhood. The majority of them are late 60's Made In USA redlines with some U.K. matchbox and Corgi's mixed in. I've wondered if they're worth anything. They were toys and played with...hard, so I don't know if they have any collectible value. They didn't stay new-in-package for more than 30 minutes.
 
Beer and liquor. I can't stand buying the run of the mill major brands or the cheap stuff. I want something that someone put some love and attention into making.
 
I'm single, I don't drive, & I do not have children, nor do I want any.

I spend extra on whatever the fuck I want.

I’m seeing a pattern where the childless singles believe that they are unique in being able to waste money.

However, unless they’ve just purchased one of Paul Allen’s yachts and furnished it with one of Nathan Myhrvold’s T-Rex skeletons, I believe that the question still applies to these people as much as it does to most, if not all.
 
Camera gear, brewing equipment, guns and shooting, and I’ve been toying with the idea of buying an exotic Italian sports car.

Star Wars and Star Trek stuff, plus anything else superhero like that catches my eye. Theres a LOT of stuff out there at the mo due to the Disney films both Star Wars and Avengers so I'm very discerning at the moment.

I don't know why really, it all goes on a shelf in my cellar and thats about it.

We subscribe to NRC Handelsblad, I have subscriptions to de Bassist, Songlines, Modern Poetry in Translation and a membership of the Poetry Book Society (a society as what sends me books of, of all things, pomes).

Periodicals are better than books in at least the respect that when you toss them in the recycling paper pile no one would dream of giving you grief, and our house long ago reached the point where somewhere to put it is the bottleneck in acquiring new stuff.

I know what you mean, but the difference is that I don't actually want or need very much, so the things that I do spend money on, I can spend extra money on.

I don't waste money- I'm very good with money. I live extremely well within my means. No debt at all, enjoy saving, very little overhead payments, no extravagant desires outside of my means. I could buy more stuff, but I just don't want or need to.
 
Instruments and music gear. I feel I should be exempt from the exclusion since I don't actually them.
 
What is this extra money of which you speak?

I got 4 kids. One is in expensive preschool. 3 are in diapers. 2 drink formula.

I buy one piece of guitar gear a year and that's it. Life is good though, just happy to be getting by.

I believe in Quality over quantity....sometimes that equates to a cheaper product but many rimes it does not. I believe in less is more, minimalism (even in shoes these days *spits*).
Let's take truck tires (or any tire) for instance....you do get what you pay for. Buy a "good" name brand and you will get better wear, better performance and zero issues like out of round tires. BFG have been good on every truck I've owned and on all the ones I've seen in the shop.
One needs to do the research...

with that said I spend extra on food...it is my insurance (thanks 'mericuh!) and it is joy.
