Had a gig last night that was a technical comedy of errors. First our keyboardists Fender Super Reverb blew, smoke covering the back of the stage... then (possibly simultaneously) a solid state Roland keyboard amp blew (KC 150 I think) it won't power on. Can't see a fuse in it from the outside... Ugh

Then in the mean time my Banshee talk box died as well. :mad:

Double Ugh!

But the show went on, keys went through the PA and I used my wah instead of the talkbox.

Then there was the cranky band drama but that's for another time

Anyone know what a ballpark price to get a Super Reverb repaired might be? I'm thinking it's a transformer.

Edit: Just to make this more guitar related for GGG :grin: I restrung my Les Paul (don't play it much) yesterday and noticed the high frets are badly oxidized. Can hear the strings scraping on them... any suggestions on how to address that? Or do I need to take it in for a dressing/refret?

Get yourself an electrical multi-tester and check the voltages at your gigs...sounds like you guys may have plugged into a circuit with some voltage issues...

Some 0000 steel wool will polish up those frets...

Yeah I used my wah instead and the drummer said he thought that the wah sounded really good, but it doesn't have the cheesy mystique of the talk box. It's really a parlor trick but hey we're into entertaining no? beavis0

I actually used 0000 steel wool on the neck of my old Wolfgang to get out some of the stains (got it used) and it worked well, didn't get stuck in the cracks. But I did tape up the pickups because the magnets will attract all kinds of steel wool bits.
 
Transformers range from maybe $40 to several hundred depending on what brand you get. Instalation isn't terribly hard if you're handy with a soldering iron.
 
Well I resurrected my talk box last night. Not sure what the problem was, tore it apart and reseated everything and it's fine (or so it seems)
