Cats and guitar string change

Smokey is happily asleep in the other room, so I pull out the Macrae and my string change kit. Suddenly, Smokey is right there ready to help. Of course, her help just doubles the time it takes to change the strings, with the added worry that she will hurt herself on the strings. :annoyed: I would shut her out of the room, but the only room with a door here is the bathroom, and that is not conducive for string changing.

Even when we had Gracie, who acted like a grumpy old lady, string changing suddenly turned her into a playful kitten. They need to develop guitar strings for cats, then they wouldn't want anything to do with them...

My workbench is set up in the basement. The cats aren't allowed down there.

Do you let your cats on counters and tables? We don’t and I’ve never had this issue.

I'm always afraid they're going to bat at the strings and one will poke them in the eye!!

It's bad enough when I poke one of my fingers... I'd feel horrible if one of my boys hurt themselves. :(

My cat is conscious about 15 minutes a day, but it will always be while I'm changing strings. I do it on the couch, where the cat is allowed. If I did it at the kitchen table, he'd sit on a chair and get at the string ends.
