Can I get your feedback on this look/modification?

I'll just stick with mahogany :embarrassed:

Mahogany's great. My PRS is 1 piece mahogany neck, 1 piece mahogany body. The spalted maple guitar is maple neck, maple top, mahogany back...

... and the new Strat is rosewood neck, canary top and mahogany back.

There's definitely a reason it's been used on guitars, pianos, and other instruments for hundreds of years.

Even Koa is considered a "super mahogany" and Limba is a lighter, more resonant mahogany type wood. biggrin

Honestly it is my #1 choice. I wouldnt mind having something else to mess with but both guitars I actually use are mahogany/maple and most of the ones I want are mahogany/maple. That one I just posted from Warmoth is a rare exception.

DAAAAMMMIITTT!!!!

I'm like "where the hell is the UPS guy?" so I go up front and ask the receptionist...

... she says "UPS was already here... dropped off some envelopes and said he'd be back a bit later."

messedup0

LATER? LATER???

Then she says "Is it a big box? Sometimes when they can't get to a big box, they have to unload more of their truck and then come back. What are you waiting on?... a guitar? I figure because you aren't usually this wound up about work related stuff."

She knows me pretty well. wave0

Thats a pisser.

Our UPS guy comes by the shop at least 3 times a day. Overnight drop off stuff first in the morning. Regular delivery noonish. Pick up at 4:30 pm.

So hopefully in the next hour or two. . .

Just some crappy cell phone pics for now...

First Impressions: Light, Resonant, plays great, contoured heel... and that neck is definitely NOT rosewood.

Did some research... figured out that the smooth, streaky wood is bocote (pronounced bo-COAT-ay)... which is mexican rosewood. The skunk stripe is darker, indian rosewood.

That's cool with me. One more exotic wood to add to the collection. :)

Even if I hadn't already ordered it, the top is DEFINITELY getting a pickguard. The two horizontal quirks in the topwood I could deal with... but I hate when the pickups stick half way out of the body, exposed and protected by nothing but the tape around the coils. The pickguard will at least come up and cover more of the pickups.

The Wilkinson bridge is really cool. Comfortable but airy like tiny suspension saddles that the strings feed through. biggrin

Thanks man.

Part of me can't wait to plug it in..... the other part of me can't wait to tear it apart.
