Came pretty close but we are ok, the neighborhood was saved. But this morning the area in the hood that did burn was active again, 10 engines responded about 5 minutes after I left. Most likely a spot fire. They have been dousing those almost continuously. CalFire is camped out in town so they jump on them pretty quickly. Sorry about your friends place. A lot of people up here lost everything. We thought we did too at a couple of points over the past 3 weeks.

do you think there will ever be a point where parts of CA are considered uninhabitable? or will this just keep getting worse and worse but rebuilt each time?

The cycle is, fire burns vegetation off the hillsides (for my area). Next winter rain comes mudslides as hillsides have nothing holding them together. Those areas won’t burn for another 10 years or so. But there are plenty of areas not yet burned.

The fires near me could have all been prevented. Like Covid, the government may just need to shut off access to the National Forest areas during fire season. People are idiots.

It depends on if we pull our collective heads out of our asses and do something about climate change. Or not.

A good section of the CZU August Lightning Complex fire was in coastal areas which typically don't see this kind of fire activity due to the marine layer keeping the lower hills pretty moist. Not this year. That shit went up like kindling.

Yah I went riding yesterday as there was a lot of smoke but it was all above 2-3000' so it looked like the surface of another planet but was fine. A lot of the smoke is coming from up north now (August complex and Oregon) but not yet mixing down. Today looks a bit better but the air is worse. It's going to be crappy for a while. There are still at least 2 months of fire season to go. Hopefully further north will get some relief sooner

Ugh, mojo. We only had one death in the CZU complex fire, a 73 y/o who stayed to protect his home.

Yeah those are some tragic stories. They suspect there are more deaths that haven't been accounted for so far.

Half my department at work lives in level 1 or 2 evac zones right now
