After watching a recent Alex Lifeson interview, apparently, he uses a ToneX for amp sounds and an Axe FX for effects in his live rig. He thinks they both sound good.

DId you get the big or little one?

It's a PITA to use at first, but once you do it's a good product. I have four of them in various form factors and while they won't replace my Fractal I get a ton of use out of them.

Depending on which one you bought, and how you plan to use it, the Xsonic Airstep TX edition is a great addition. The large ToneX pedal may have enough buttons for your needs. I have the ToneX One. I find the smartphone Airstep app control of the ToneX One to be a game changer.

I just got the Tonex1. It's pretty nifty. Right now I'm using it as a stomp box. I found some really good TS9 and Zendrive sounds that I've tweeked.

Here is my ToneX One rig. I mainly use mine speaker sim off, fed into a 50 watt Fryette Power Station PS2 amp, wired into various real speaker cabs ….

I mentioned in another thread my ongoing analysis on whether to go Helix or ToneX.

I got the ToneX pedal today. Even just running through the 40 included banks I am pretty happy with the stock sounds. At some point I will look into downloading presets and define "my" sound. But for now I am very happy

Rather than create another Tonex thread these are my thoughts on it a month in:
My desire to have a sound in my headphones that would then translate into a consistent sound if I play with other people was naive on my part. I forgot that obvious that even excluding the cab from the presets when going into my amp, that Mesa Cab I have has its own sound characteristics I need to adjust for. It's not the end of the world. Most of my stuff is basic rock and roll, so cloned presets I adjusted for is fine.

I am likely going to grab the Amalgam JCM800 pack with DI. That may give me something a little closer bouncing from headphones and cab. I am tempted to get an FRFR cab, but I'm expecting the same tone variation with presets anyway.

On the advice of all you good folks I took delivery on the Airstep doohicky today. It's charging up now and I'll set it up this evening. I've got the phone app up and running, Looks like a fun time will be had by all!
