Books!

I have read a horribly low number of books in my life. when i open a book or go to a library its like a whole world of information is opened up to me that for some reason isnt on the internet...anyways my grandma volunteers at the local library so i was able to get my hands on a few random things for free... In my family-by-marriage it is very common to get books as birthday presents. It is conventional to make a disappointed face and say "But I already have a book!".

Never gets tiring!

Meanwhile, our attic room is full of IKEA "Billy" bookshelves, all of which are full of books. Some of them double-shelved.

I'm just saying: these things can be seriously habit-forming.

+1 Drummergirl and I stop at Goodwills, other thrift stores and used book stores a few times a month. If we're ever out and about and end up with 30-45 minutes to kill, the first thought is usually "where's the nearest thrift store? Wanna go look for books?"

A good book and literally :)o) change your life. Keep reading whatever you can get your hands on that interests you. :thu:

books are awesome.

one came in really handy when we ran outta TP

I kid, I love to read.
and by "read", I mean actual books.

the day the paper book goes away, is the day I stop reading (other than forums, I guess  )

I have more books than space to keep them. Several of my books are still in the packing boxes from when we moved five years ago...we take them out when we need them, but then they end up stacked on a windowsill somewhere.

I read a ton but its mostly junk fiction...good escapism. RIght now I'm finishing up World War Z.

I haven't read much since high school. I have a few laying around that I got about a 1/4 of the way through.

If you remember and enjoyed Maddox you may like this one...

I ahve some very weird taste in books. From the adolescent S.E. Hinton books ( I have read The Outsiders more times than I can count), Dean Koontz, Stephen King, Autobiographies, biographies, ( mostly music related), David Eddings, Piers Anthony.

And like Peeker said, the day the paperback dies, so does my reading habit. I've got nodesire for the kindles or what-not to read.

Since I cancelled cable service last summer, I've read, oh, 16 books. The only time I divert to the internets while reading is to look up a definition, or reference, on my phone. No links to click. No post reply button. There is maximum focus. i do like to mix up the fun escapist reads with the heavier stuff, though, and will read a couple books concurrently.

Well, I was going to add in that it's all just common sense, but the way the story is told gets you thinking a little bit differently.

I personally gained a perspective of how other people might think. As for my personal cheese, it's right F^%in here. Just try and move it.

Oddly enough, tonight at dinner, my son asked me if I remembered this book;

Ah, no. I guess I'll have to dig around and see if I can find it.

I love the feel and smell of a paperback, but don't discount the e-readers. I can carry around all of my Johannes Cabal and my Sandman Slim on a device a little bigger than my phone, and it only needs charging once or twice a month.

Another nice thing is the ability to just have a new book instantly. I will say my readin consumption is much higher since I got the Kindle.

I usually buy my books at a local used book shop so they are usually $1 or $2.

On a couple past trips I didn't take enough material and wound up having to download a couple books to my tablet. The convenience was nice and it's not a bad reading experience but yeah, you miss the tactile part of a book. I'll probably continue to use both.

The issue I have with reading on a tablet, iPad or computer... is that all the other things that the device does is always calling my attention away.

So when I read a book, I like it to be an actual book.

Yeah, the kindle I've got doesn't do anything else. It does have a browser but it's greyscale and frustratingly slow. I end up just burning through books.
