Dood, this isn't 7/26/72. It's two of the most important nights and four of the most important concerts in the history of rock. They got two songs into another concert a few weeks later and that was it. Four shows and one album with six songs on it, but it was AMAZING.

there's a two-disc set called Live at the Fillmore East - unreleased material from the shows. might be out of print now. has the BEST version of Stone Free evah!

Hendrix's career didn't quite hit the four year mark before he died, and in that time he changed the world of rock music in ways that are still felt today. We only got a small glimpse of a talent that was growing by leaps and bounds, and as such every recorded note of his music is worth hearing (kinda like Robert Johnson). The Dead jammed on doing the same shit for fucking years, just a little worse every time they came to town.

I have a theory that if you made instrumental mixes of The Doors catalog, they'd be much more enjoyable. The solo on "Light My Fire" is fucking epic, to the point that it's a real drag when that blowhard asshole starts singing again.

No defense of the Eagles except I like Bernie Leadon and Joe Walsh in other musical contexts.
 
I listened to it today while I was wiring up my studio in the basement. The thing I love about the track Machine Gun is how every time it just feels different... this cut starts out a lot more mellow.
