I just can't make my SE C22 work for me. I know a lot of people love then, but it falls way short for me!

I don't like the sound. I've swapped a few different pickups into it, but the light wood projects an overtone like wet cardboard. It can sound ok clean or even dirty through a modeler. But, through an overdriven tube amp, it sounds muddled and bratty. Also, the bass is way too loose.

I can usually get along with any guitar to a certain degree. I've really tried but this axe is a lost cause for me. :(

Sorry to hear that :(

Soundwise to me, the SEs are good, not great - but the feel and playability more than make up for any sonic deficiencies, IMO.

Looks like you gave it your best shot, though :)
 
I've only played one, and its owned by a student. I wasn't very impressed but I figured that was because it was a cheaper version of a guitar I didn't care for in the first place...
 
Not every guitar will appeal to everyone. I know a lot of people who really like the standard MIM Fender Teles. I have never played one I really liked at all (out of many tried).

I have an SE Singlecut that I like, but it's not blow me away good.

This is the same way I felt about them. I tried quite a few. The feel and sound do nothing for me.

I probably would have liked the SE single cut better. I've heard they are heavier. I think the light weight wood on the SE C22 contributes to the poor sound.

I've been the same way as you about the MIM Fender line. I hear people rave about them all the time. I want to like them because of the price, but I've never played one that felt great. I even took home a Robert Cray model because it was on sale and had features that should have made it great to me in theory, but I returned it the next day. MIM Fender are good and playable and I'm sure they must make a few great ones, but I haven't been lucky enough to find one. I think it's easier to find a great MIA. To anyone reading, YMMV.

Pretty much nails my opinion of them. I have tried them in all price ranges and I did find one that I liked a bit...it stood out over the others that I had tried. I thought "this is a nice $1000 guitar" and I asked the guy how much it was and he said $3500. It was a real head shaking moment but I had played a few other high dollar PRS guitars before and was underwhelmed by them too. I just am consistently unimpressed by them.

That's why I ended up selling my SE Singlecut...good guitar but just lacking something soundwise that I didn't seem able to fix.

I have never played a guitar at that price level - especially a set neck, that really blew me away. But the SE Singlecut is a good sounding, very good playing, solid guitar. It will hold off my LP GAS until I can afford a great guitar of that type (PRS, Gibson, Edwards, etc).
 
i tried a few at my local GC. coming from someone that like PRS guitars, the SE series does nothing for me either. i didnt like the pickups at all, and the feel was just all wrong.
