The way around it is to prove guilt or innocence before publicly prosecuting. This is a pretty small forum and you have one member with a friend who this happened to, another had it happen to him and a guy I grew up with had the same issue when he was a teacher. No longer a teacher because of something he didn't do. So I'm not sure that I would describe it as outlier. There shouldn't be one time someone's life was ruined by a false claim. Nor should anyone be allowed to assault others and not be punished. Maybe we need to get better at the fair and speedy trial part.
I have no idea if Spacey did anything wrong or not. I wasn't there and I have no idea what to trust from the internet. But as a guy watching that video I'd be inclined to think that reality may differ, even if slightly, from what has been reported. At least it seems his intention was to create some doubt. Not saying I think it makes him any more guilty or innocent but he clearly thinks so.

One of my best friends knows the accuser. He doesn’t think spacey likely did anything wrong. I tend to believe the accuser in most cases. But I don’t know about this one.

Spacey issued a statement saying he was "beyond horrified" to hear the accusation, insisting he didn't remember the encounter but apologizing to Rapp. In the same statement, he came out as gay for the first time in public, infuriating gay rights advocates who viewed his acknowledgment as a false conflation of homosexuality with pedophilia in an attempt to distract attention from the underlying accusation.

Roberto Cavazos, a Mexican actor, said in Spanish in a Facebook post on Oct. 30 that Spacey fondled or tried to fondle him against his will while he was at the Old Vic theater in London and Spacey was artistic director there. "Those of us who were around him at the Old Vic know that a lot more people will come forward with their stories in the coming days and weeks," Cavazos said in the post.

Daniel Beal, told London tabloid The Sun on Oct. 31 and The Daily Mail on Nov. 7 that in 2010, when he was 19 and working as a bartender in a West Sussex hotel, Spacey exposed himself to him outside the hotel while he was on a cigarette break. He continued, saying Spacey gave him an expensive watch to buy his silence.

Justin Dawes told BuzzFeed on Nov. 3 he was 16 and a theater usher in New Haven, Conn., in 1988, when Spacey, then appearing in a play there, invited him and a male friend to his apartment to watch a movie. Mark Ebenhoch was a 35-year-old military advisor working in uniform on the set of 1995's Outbreak when, he said, Spacey (who had a role in the movie) instructed one of his "harem" of young male crewmembers to solicit him for sex with Spacey, BuzzFeed reported on Nov. 3. Ebenhoch turned him down feigning disgust because he was then in the closet himself and feared repercussions for his career. “As a military adviser the last thing you’d want anyone to know is that you were gay,” he told BuzzFeed.

Harry Dreyfuss: The son of Oscar-winning actor Richard Dreyfuss wrote a first-person column in BuzzFeed on Nov. 4 describing how Spacey groped his genitals when he was 18 and his father was in the room. Harry Dreyfuss said it happened in 2008 in London when Spacey was directing his father in a play at the Old Vic and the three were alone in Spacey's apartment rehearsing lines.
His father didn't see it, and he didn't tell him until many years later. Instead, Harry Dreyfuss, now an actor and writer in Los Angeles, told jokes about it at parties, although now he realizes there was nothing funny about it. “Kevin Spacey is a sexual predator. But I still never thought talking about it seriously was ever an option.” Buzzfeed quoted Bryan Freedman, one of Spacey's lawyers, as rejecting Harry's allegation: “Let me be clear, Mr. Spacey absolutely denies the allegations.”
7. Tony Montana told USA TODAY on Nov. 1 that a drunken Spacey confronted him in 2003 at a Los Angeles pub, groped his genitals and chased him into a bathroom. "He grabbed my whole package, he grabbed me hard; no one had ever done that to me," said Montana, who was then in his 30s.

The Spacey case is big and complex. I highly doubt that there will be anything but people's accounts of what happened. There may be more. There seems to be a presence of "they are after money" thinking in every case of this nature involving famous people or wealthy people.
In sexual assault cases, there are so many times in which there is no evidence. No evidence. How should those such cases get handled? Predators are normally opportunistic and seek out situations which will minimize evidence.
For example: if a man was in an old elevator with a woman and decided that it was the day that he was going to grab a handfull of whatever he could grab on the 4 floor trip then walk off of the elevator as if he had been staring at the door the whole time, what evidence would there be?

Thing is, it’s extremely rare for justice to prevail in these sorts of cases. The law didn’t do a damn thing for women, black people, LGBTQs, etc., until there was organization, politicization, and public protest and dissent. This will be no different.

again since we're not a court of law or news organization, we have free speech and often that's the only recourse for sexual predators with victims who are often afraid to come forward due to shame or embarrassment. Same way citizens don't have to wait for legal action to be taken against companies or corporations that promote racism, sexism, or unfair business practices. We can talk about them, organize boycotts, etc. Same with sexual predators (especially those who just go around grabbing people's genitalia). We can talk about them with our freedom of speech and spread the word. People today are really confused about the difference between having enough evidence for a legal conviction, and their own ability to exercise common sense based on 15 reported cases coming forward.
You should probably just not click into this thread instead of asking everyone else to follow your own personal scruples.

I have had 3 women confide in me their personal stories. They are all horrible.
1. She was dating the guy and he often played loud music in his room which was segregated from the rest of the common living space and in the basement. He cranked the music one day and ignored her screaming "no" in his ear. That was her first time.
2. She thought this guy was her friend. He told her that he was going to tell everyone that they did all sorts of things if she didn't do it with him but he wouldn't tell anyone if she did. Manipulative. Not as violent as the first scenario but there is a lot of control in fear. That was her first time.
3. She thought this guy was her friend. She and another girl friend were hanging out at the guy's place and he served them drinks laced with horse tranquilizers. She said that she was fully aware of everything that he did but she couldn't speak or move.
These girls were all 14-15 years old when these events took place. None were reported to police or family members.
In case 3 there was a happy ending of sorts but it was slow karma. The guy was stealing copper wire from a transformer and the power was still running through it. I don't think there was much left of him. I also think that it was too good for him.
