Jeez, how long has it been on that lawn?

I have always wanted a 'birth year' guitar, but that isn't it. Yuk

Whenever I see an old burst I'm reminded of Dan Erlwine's Bloomfield story...

Dan had a 58 or 59 burst, but Mike was the hot player at the time and had the soapbarred goldtop. People regarded it as one of the instruments to have. Dan, like many others, lusted it and convinced Mike to do a trade. Immediately, a burst became the instrument because Mike was now playing that. Add to that Jimmy Page, and we have an instrument that Gibson had actually dropped from it's line due to disinterest in the marketplace becoming the most sought after (and arguably overvalued) electric guitar in the world.

The specific instrument, of course, doesn't matter. You can buy something new from a store or private that likely sounds and feels just as good. However, if you play a vintage instrument and it speaks to you and inspires you...then there's nothing more important than that specific instrument.

I'd rather have a vintage Tele for a mere (and small) fraction of the cost of this guitar. Hell, I'd take new Tele! Wait, I got a variation on that theme...so I'm good.

For now. :thu:

I'd take that if someone were to give it me as a gift.
I doubt I would pay the asking price even if I had the money.

To be honest, I'm interested more in the mystique and the 'collectability', but if it were ever to become mine, I would certainly play it at first.
If it was a joy to play, I'd keep playing it. If it is just so-so, I'd hang it on the wall or flip it.
I was just about to buy that for you but if that's the way you feel, I guess I'll just keep my 260,000 dollars

I don't know.
I like it, but it would kill my productivity. I'd be in the mirror doing Page poses instead of actually playing.

That's beautiful and everything, but I'd rather have one of the lemon drop bursts (those make me drool) or any 10 normal excellent guitars.
