Question: Anyone here deal with anxiety or OCD?

Struggling lately and could use some perspectives. Sorry if this isn't appropriate here...

Yup. I've recently started counseling, as I've added agoraphobia to my other neuroses and it's starting to interfere with a lot of day-to-day tasks.

If you don't already have a doc, find one ASAP, but know that you're going to have to be a lot more patient than you're going to feel is helpful, especially if you add medication to the mix.

Had a couple of rough stretches due to stressful circumstances, specifically C-PTSD and cancer treatment. In both cases, the combination of Effexor and cognitive therapy was very effective. Have been both drug-free and symptom-free for a long time now.

yep, had anxiety disorder with panic attacks for about 14 years now. With medication and coping mechanisms through cognitive behavioral therapy, I am anxiety free for about 95% of the time. However, during times of stress, anxiety often resurfaces but not had a panic attack for a long time.

I'm not "officially" any of these but I do struggle with stress and anxiety on almost a seasonal basis, mostly work related. I don't sleep very well either.

Yes, I have dealt with some that was exacerbated by situational stress over the last few years. I ended up being on a controlled dose of SAM-e that was recommended by my doc, and has worked well for me, along with reducing stressors. My best advice is to get some help/recommendations from your care provider. I go to one who is traditionally trained, but somewhat holistic, and knew I wanted to stay of prescription meds if possible. Thus the SAM-e. But getting your own advice is key.

I'm the poster child for anxiety with facets of OCD. Life long struggle for sure. Meds can be very effective, but it can be daunting to find the right drug or drug combination. It is worth the effort though.

Excercise is also a great form of treatment as it can free up the flow of seratonin and endorphins.

Mojo.

Major depressive disorder, severe anxiety, and PTSD. The meds help. But it took a while to find the right combination. I still have days where I'm paralyzed because of stress. I'm involved with a depression/bipolar support group. That helps. Exercise is also important. But I don't exercise as much as I should.

Yeah. Anxiety, depression, OCD-type stuff, since my teens.

Was on an SSRI briefly but it was too weird. Therapy can help- I recommend it.

i'm another one who deals with anxiety, depression and ocd. i take 3 types of medication and go to the counselor once a week. i also have trouble sleeping. it got so bad back around 2000 i applied for disability and after struggling with them for 7 long years i finally got on it. not sure what to say about it except if you want to talk about anything i'll be glad to answer questions or talk about it with you. it's not fun. people around you aren't usually aware of what you are going through and panic attacks are no fun whatsoever.

I have been on SSRI for over a decade, and they don't make me feel weird or anything anymore. Having said that, when I started taking them I became excitable(almost erratic), extremely extrovert and strangely uncaring ( as in not giving a shit about anything). And then there was the sexual side effects. Took me a while to settle down, but hardy ever have panic attacks anymore

something noone else has mentioned is if you are going to counseling or a doctor it helps me to write down questions or things i want to talk about as it comes up so i can remember to talk to the doctor about it.

I have a little OCD going on. Nothing that can't be cured by buying some more guitars and amps..

Sleeping has been very problematic since my wife passed. My Dr. thinks it's stress related.

One of the stranger side-effects I experienced was an intense craving for nicotine. I hadn't smoked in like ten years but started again within days of going on an SSRI. (have since re-quit)

otc melatonin works wonders helping to get to sleep. take about 10mg about an hour before bed and it's nighty night

I don't think I'm OCD but everyone else does. IDK it's not exactly a bad thing when you're an engineer.

I have my good days and I have my bad days and somedays I just feel like an alien on earth. Other days I do okay. I work a fairly stressful day gig that I've made manageable by finding a process I can live with but today just made me want to quit and be a monkey tamer or something easier.
