that's up to the buyer to decide. people say the same thing about $4000 Sadowsky archtops because they're made in Japan. but if the buyer is willing to pay, and they feel the quality is there, then that's all that matters.
 
BTW if you ever see a Duesy hanging up somewhere, ask to see it and check the back out.

The BACK of mine has a ridiculous AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA+ trans black finish. Seriously it's nicer than just about any fancy front top I've seen on gibbys, PRSs etc...

I guess it goes to prove just that which I have wondered about the whole time. When they first came back out they wanted like 600 for one and I wondered how they could provide a quality german made instrument at that price. Espc if you look at the price for a Framus Semi Hollow or Warwick Bass. I've also never read in "Gitarre & Bass" where their factory is. They always swwm to make a point of mentioning it somewhere in their reviews of German products.

Hmmmmmm.......

I still like that guitar though and if I'm getting it for free "Yipeeeee!!!!"
