FWIW we're (Wasted, that is) the only non-country band here that can get away with that.
We can pull off doing some really heavy stuff compared to all the other bands playing up here, as long as we have a few well known covers that'll get the people rocking.
Sort of a calculated risk in a way.

Now that I think about it, we're the only local non-label band that draw enough people that the local pub/bar has actually had actually had to close the doors because of being packed before even the first set is done.
Some of it due to the music, but I believe most of it is due to us lately getting a really good reputation for being a good live band.

We're planning of doing some festivals and gigs further away from "home" from this summer and onwards - looking forward to that as that will be the real test of how well it actually works.
The most important audience is the one you haven't played for yet.

Don't get me wrong... there's still a LOT of that going on... but I can tell by the crowds of the different places they play that their music makes a difference on HOW MANY people are in the place... hunting and making bad decisions.
