I think it would work for apartments/condos - they could have a dedicated delivery area (sort of how they have all the mailboxes together now).
They're using GPS and flying autonomously - jamming GPS is illegal (actually jamming anything is illegal). Not that being illegal would stop someone, but, it's illegal.
They just need a waiver to fly under 400'. The FAA is a govt agency, I'm sure there will lobbyists left after the swamp draining.

yea....a designated landing zone that all the thieves would know about....so all your stuff would be stolen before you ever got home.
in the last couple years, the FAA has taken the position, but not actual rule, yet, that they are not in favor of drone deliveries. i'm just sayin'

I think the delivery area could be worked out. Since the boxes are small, you could have some sort of deposit only drop area that routes the box to the correct place or something like that. It can be figured out.
The FAA has indeed been pretty negative about commercial drone use. That can change. This technology is in its infancy and laws can and will change to support it at some point.

You know, everyone says that theefs will take everything, but where I live is a riot of packages on porches this time of year...including my porch. Nothing has gotten swiped. Occasionally there'll be one or two brazen/high profile things in the news. But really, I think fears about theft are overrated.

I think Amazon drone delivery is tied to Amazon’s plan to launch its own delivery service to cut out USPS and UPS. They’ll build a robot truck loaded with drones. While a human drops off all of the heavy or bulky stuff the drones will fly lightweight packages to houses all over a neighborhood.

This is my worry too. I work in the freight industry so I'm pretty sure drones won't be delivering 6 pallets of stuff around the country but yea....
Unfortunately unions aren't what they used to be either.
