I think (IMHO...so opinion only) it might be because with a hardtail you have more wood under the bridge. No need to be hollowed out for the tremolo hardware and springs. More stability where it will most affect the tone. Not a large difference, but enough to be noticeable I think.
 
Nash makes hardtail strats. I have one and love it.

Relic blah blah I know it’s not for everyone. I personally don’t care about the relic one way or the other and hate the heavy relics.

But... it’s better than most of the stuff fender puts out in terms of playability, feel, and sound.
 
I have a number of Strats. Two of them are hardtails. None of the others have vibrato arms in them and a few other bridges are blocked. They all seem to play about the same.
 
I dig the Robert Cray Strat and yeah, they are a different beast. That said, I found a tele with a middle strat pickup covers that hardtail territory more than adequately. And then you have a tele too! Jus thinking out loud

I’ve actually not. I’m leaning towards staying the course at the moment after spending some time fussing with my existing gear. And the blue strat I have is a very good little strat and I’m chasing something pretty nebulous and hoping a conglomeration of bolt on parts turn into magic when I press the order button.

I think I might just have a case of the shopsies. Or be reckoning with my general dis-ease/dissatisfaction = blow something up tendencies — and gear swapping is a pretty low-risk way to manage that impulse/anxiety so...
