About 1" of binding chipped off the neck of my guitar

Well not mine...

My dad's old gretsch. About an inch or so of binding chipped off.
How would you go about fixing it?

I honestly have no idea. Where did it come off from?

The neck. Now, I have no side dot to indicate the 9th fret

Bindings are glued on. Type of glue, depends on binding material. Super glue will glue any binding on. Without knowing where, and how much has broken off, makes it difficult to suggest a repair. Can you post a pic?

Ahhh... Is the piece that came off in good shape? If so, I suggest masking the neck and f/b (to protect the edges where the binding meets them) with masking tape, and then apply a thin coat of cyanoacrylate glue (super glue), and gluing it back on.
