Why do we hate gold hardware? If this played well, the pickups sounded good, and the trem was stable enough, I'd be OK with this.

Because it starts to look shitty with the slightest amount of wear and they charge more for it. The same guitar with black or chrome would be $50 to $100 cheaper. Or they could charge the same price with a better Floyd.
